Russia has veto power in the UN Security Council. Russia is not a member of NATO.

For a long time now Russia has been supporting separists movements inside Georgia, and recently before the fighting broke out, was handling out Russian identity cards and passports to S. Ossetia citizens.

Russia has been wratcheting up the death and mayhem hoping Georgia would make some kind of military move. Why else was there so many mechanized forces so conviently near the border with Georgia?

Russia has wanted this fight all along, and I would bet a nice bottle of scotch that they are going to topple the Georgian government and install some puppet pro-soviet government. If not that, they will see about carving up Georgia for the separitst regions.

so who is next? Ukraine? Considering Belarus is a puppet Russian government, the Russians will have complete control of the entire western border of Poland. Granted the Georgians aren’t in NATO, but If I were the Poles I’d think about getting nervous….maybe ask for a full blown American base in Warsaw. You know the French, Germans, and Brits won’t be much help.

The Russian Empire is on the upswing after their destructive dabble with Communism.

Nowadays it is very difficult to hide the truth. Georgia started offensive in Ossetia killing 2,000 civilians, destroying the city of Tshinvali and attacking Russian peacekeepers. This gave full right to Russians to fight the agressor in order to protect civilians. It was not Russia who started this conflict, but Georgia. Now they have to pay full price for this aggression and Russians reserve the right to end the conflict when they see enough guarantees to keep the peace in the region.
