As of early this morning our time Georgian forces are regrouping outside of Tskhinvali.

“As our military commanders are telling us Tskhinvali is actually totally destroyed,” Lomaia said.

He said that overnight on August 10, the Russian Federation has sent “dozens of military hardware, including tanks, artillery systems and tactical missile” to South Ossetia via Roki Tunnel.”

“They have also mobilized forces in Java and all night through they were carrying out air strikes on the positions of the Georgian troops,” Lomaia said.

He said “military aggression of unprecedented scales” was ongoing against Georgia.

Russian forces are planning to attack Zugdidi, a town on the Georgian side of the Abkhaz administrative border, Davit Bakradze, the Georgian parliamentary speaker, said in a televised address to the nation.

The Georgia’s statehood is under huge danger.

I want to convey to you the message of the President Saakashvili and the government.

Let’s stand united and resist the enemy forces everywhere with all the means available.

We must not allow the enemy to occupy our land and we should not let events of 1921 [when the Red Army invaded Georgia] to be repeated.

Our force is in our unity; we will defend our homeland Georgia together. Georgia is doing its best for this purpose.

We call you for calm; firmness; everything will be fine.

The most important is to show the enemy that it has to deal with dignified and organized nation.

We call on you to be organized and firm and for resisting the enemy at every place, where it will be needed after the enemy forces enter our territory.

The only thing that seems to be self-evident is that Russia has no business being in Georgia without an invitation. Russia is now claiming that Georgia has committed “genocide” against Southern Ossetia. It sounds like a good enough excuse for Russia to move in and, yeah right, “protect” them.

Meanwhile, how many Ossetians did Russia kill in the “crossfire”?

Now we just need to know if Russian agitators in the guise of peacekeepers started the clash between Georgia and Southern Ossetia.

They have stood with us in Iraq when much of the rest of the world thumbed their noses at us. We should stand with them in their dark hour of desperate need.

May God be on their side against the communist demons.

we need to be in full support of the Georgians right now. they were there with us in Iraq and are now fighting a long time enemy of ours, no matter what Bush thought he saw in Putin’s eyes. Russia is still an enemy of ours and of the free world.

Russia and Putin are trying desperately to reclaim their old power and might. If you remember it all started when they started flying their antiquated bombers close to America, Britain and other assets and allies of the U.S.A.!!!

Georgian troops fire rockets at separatist South Ossetian troops Aug. 8

The following are internal Stratfor documents produced to provide high-level guidance to our analysts. These documents are not forecasts, but rather a series of guidelines for understanding and evaluating events, as well as suggestions on areas for focus.

Given the speed with which the Russians reacted to Georgia’s incursion into South Ossetia, Moscow was clearly ready to intervene. We suspect the Georgians were set up for this in some way, but at this point the buildup to the conflict no longer matters. What matters is the message that Russia is sending to the West.

Russian President Dmitri Medvedev summed this message up best: “Historically Russia has been, and will continue to be, a guarantor of security for peoples of the Caucasus.”
Strategically, we said Russia would respond to Kosovo’s independence, and they have. Russia is now declaring the Caucasus to be part of its sphere of influence. We have spoken for months of how Russia would find a window of opportunity to redefine the region. This is happening now.

All too familiar with the sight of Russian tanks, the Baltic countries are terrified of what they face in the long run, and they should be. This is the first major Russian intervention since the fall of the Soviet Union. Yes, Russia has been involved elsewhere. Yes, Russia has fought. But this is on a new order of confidence and indifference to general opinion. We will look at this as a defining moment.

The most important reaction will not be in the United States or Western Europe. It is the reaction in the former Soviet states that matters most right now. That is the real audience for this. Watch the reaction of Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Nagorno-Karabakh and the Balts. How will Russia’s moves affect them psychologically?

The Russians hold a trump card with the Americans: Iran. They can flood Iran with weapons at will. The main U.S. counter is in Ukraine and Central Asia, but is not nearly as painful.

Tactically, there is only one issue: Will the Russians attack Georgia on the ground? If they are going to, the Russians have likely made that decision days ago.

Focus on whether Russia invades Georgia proper. Then watch the former Soviet states. The United States and Germany are of secondary interest at this point.
