Iran Launches Satellite Carrier - With Video

Iranian TV aired footage which it said showed the satellite launch
Iran says it has successfully launched a rocket capable of carrying its first domestically built satellite.
Officials said only the rocket had been fired, correcting state media reports that the communications satellite itself had been sent into orbit.
Tehran has pursued a space programme for years, despite international concern over its nuclear plans.
In February it sent a probe into space as part of preparations for the launch of the satellite.
Long-held ambition
Footage aired on Irinn (Islamic Republic of Iran News Network) showed the launch of the Safir rocket in darkness.
The presenter said that the satellite launch was a trial which was successful. State and military officials confirmed the launch had taken place.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was at the event, said one report.
In October 2005 a Russian-made Iranian satellite named Sina-1 was put into orbit by a Russian rocket.
Sunday’s launch comes amid a long-running dispute over Iran’s nuclear activities.
The US and some European countries have demanded that Iran curtail uranium enrichment - but Iran protests that its purposes are peaceful and says it has a right to continue.

I didn’t know scuds were orbital vehicles. I guess if you don’t care where it lands ….
August 17th, 2008 at 11:07 amThe intended message here is that “if we can launch a satellite into low earth orbit, we can also launch a nuke (once we have one) at any point on the earth.”
This is more disturbing than the talk about nukes in that it demonstrates the possible ability to deliver a payload (whatever that may be) to targets in our backyard. Combine that with NBC weapons capability and I say:
1. The missile shield that Bush has been pushing is truly needed.
2. This presents a clear and present danger to the US and Europe.
3. Someone needs to airmail special delivery a package to Iran similar to the one we sent Libya!
So … just my devilish mind at work here … Georgia is looking for a way to say F#$% You to the Soviets (notice I did not say Russians) … how about an invite to the Israelis to use their airfields for whatever purpose may suit them vis-a-vis Iran?
Just my opinion … or have I had too much cognac?

It’s been covered before, to summarize, exploding a nuclear
weapon above the Earth’s atmosphere, but still inside the
ionosphere, creates high speed electrons through a physics
process called Compton-scattering. The fast electrons get bent
into circles by our magnetic field and as a result radiate coherent
electromagnetic waves at the ground below, capable of inducing voltages
in wires of up to 25,000 Volts/yard. The goal is to render a large
area of the country’s electronics useless and plunge a technological
society back to primitive survivalism.
We would be stupid to let any missile or any satellite approach
our continent.
We should get in the practice of just shooting them down as soon
as they are launched. It would be good target practice.
