“You can accuse the Americans of many things, such as hamfistedness, but you can’t accuse them of not addressing a situation when it arises. While we had a strategy of evasion, the Americans just went in and addressed the problem.”

Oh you mean "not being afraid of a fight"? I can't believe this story...what the hell happend to the brits of WWII?

What the hell happened to the country that gave us Richard the Lionhearted, St.George, Horatio Nelson and Winston Churchill?

Why do I get the sad feeling that I've studied more of their military history than whoever brokered this deal? Keep in mind my interest there is a pretty short one, as it's pretty much related just to the Revolution and 1812.

Bladensburg comes to mind. Hard to believe now it's the country that successfully stormed Washington DC or won at Trafalgar.

The quality of the British troops in theater along with their will to fight should not be put into question, because like our military they can't break out into independent operations without orders.

What should be brought into question is why any official entity of the British Government is even bargaining with these thugs.

You see it is always the political class that does things that would bring into question the honor of the warrior class, just like here they "support the troops" but not the fighting forces of their nations.

 KC:

This is the return of the Brits who caused WWII by trying to 'accommodate' Hitler instead of dealing with a clear and present danger before it grew strong enough to threaten the entire world.

The heirs of Chamberlain are in the ascendancy.

The nation that "Made the world England!" and brought us heroism such as Gandamak is dead.

To soft, to left, to many immigrants wanting to make England like there home instead of becoming English.

Hopefully they will learn before its too late, assuming its not already too late...

Just thinking out loud here, but could it be that this was also the same reason for the Ireland insurgency being prolonged as long as it was?

The British weren't willing to lay the hammer down and win the war with overwhelming force, but instead were trying to win on the cheap by playing footsie with the enemy and with as few troops as possible. Does that strategy sound familiar to you Rumsfeld fans?

“Maliki, and the Americans, felt the British were morally impugned by the deal they had reached with the militia. The British were accused of trying to find the line of least resistance in dealing with the Shia militia,” said the source.

This, in addition to the continuing release and govt financial support of terrorists in the UKaliphate, gives me grave concerns about just who's side they are on.

This is a sad comment on our so called best friend in the world that we have a "special relationship" with; our "mother country". As much of a Anglophile that I am, it is extremely hard for me to think that the British government is that "two faced" and back stabbing. But they are.
The troops are great. The leadership is piss poor.
Frig it, if we have to go it alone, we will. Everyone else just stay out of the F'ing way, don't hamper us.
I need a freaking beer.
