Fuck the filmmaker’s politics. Fuck where the filmmaker was coming from politically, I still love this flick and I can look past all of the anti-war bullshit he tried slinging around. Besides, no matter how hard one tries to spin the truth, one cannot spin the truth without having the truth revealed within the spin, and all one has to do is look for the truth, remove the spin, and you have the only truly correct answer one can give to the question put to Animal Mother…

I so agree with him

    I don’t actually think he’s wrong.

We shouldn’t win, we should annihilate  :gun: :gun: :gun:

Actually I don’t think he tried to make an anti-whatever film. Well, I’ve read anyway that he just wanted to make a movie to show what it was like, neither pro nor against.

    What film is it?

That was Full Metal Jacket, right? I think that was the best film about the Corps in Vietnam that was ever made. The Gunny, R. Lee Ermy (?) has had a great career since Vince Dinofrio blew him away in the latrine. Matthew Modine had good success but has turned into a girly-man Bush-hater. Who else was in that flick?

    Correct. Full Metal Jacket.

Its Full Metal Jacket absolutly one of my favs. The movie was taken from a book titled the “Short Timers” written by Gustav Herman. A fun quick read.

    Favorite Scene for me:

Animal Motha: What do you do?

    Joker: I’m a COMBAT Correspondant!

Animal Motha: Oh Yeah? You seen much ..COMBAT?

    Joker:…… I seen a litle…….ON TV!

FMJ is my favorite movie! The lefty shit in it was just that - laughable!

One of the best movies of all time.

I like Hamburger Hill, but only a bit more than FMJ. FMJ gets weird towards the end but is still fantastic. Both show the terror, stress, and inane decisions made by the brass during time of war but in the end the good guys are the heroes. Can’t argue with that.

Yea, I like Hamburger Hill more, but FMJ is great. It was fun watching it in the rec center during bootcamp at Benning with about 200 other guys, all perfectly in sync with our laughing/booing/etc.

The Siege of Firebase Gloria is another great one, that almost no one knows about.

I had the same reaction to Full Metal Jacket as I did with WallStreet. Both attempted to create characters that were supposed to be bad but ended up being liked more than intended like Gordon Gecko and Gunnery Sargent Hartman.

Animal Mother and Gunny Hart were supposed to be hated, because that’s what Leftist ideology demanded. But, as is often the case, people were too ’stupid’ (or sane) and loved them.

Who would you want watching your back? Joker or Animal Mother?

Hamburger Hill? I found it to be highly formulaic. We were Soldiers Young…. was the shiznit after FMJ. Hamburger Hill tried to stuff every stereo type into its characters.
