August 31st, 2008 at 1:36 pmthere is so much to learn from animals!

August 31st, 2008 at 2:20 pmIt’s confounding how those bears don’t ID the dogs as food.
August 31st, 2008 at 2:27 pmMahalo nui.
I sent it to family who will be able to show it to their kids.
You’re becoming an all-purpose blog. Sort of.
August 31st, 2008 at 2:34 pmThe bear was not hungry, that’s why they did not mess with the dogs. If the bear was hungry, it would be just as happy to eat the dogs as to play with them. Polar bears ARE NOT GENTLE! Jeez, these environmental weenies make me sick. Polar bears are stone cold killers who kill to survive. It is not some noble creature that we can learn from unless you count, when you are hungry, kill the nearest living thing and eat it.
August 31st, 2008 at 6:03 pmUm, why should the bears get agressive, the dogs are chained.
For all we know they see the dogs as a popsicle on a stick chained to the ground.
September 1st, 2008 at 6:41 amPolar bears have a pretty specific diet and rarely deviate from it unless they are in bad shape otherwise. Garbage dumps attract them because it’s pre-prepared food. I’ve seen photos and read the story of another incident like this and the bear came back several days in a row to “play”(sounds crazy don’t it?) with the dogs.
September 1st, 2008 at 8:13 amProbably a couple of cub that grew up with dogs - now you know the rest of the story - doubleglock, good day??
September 1st, 2008 at 8:39 amAwwww, now I want to see polar bears ripping the heads off seals.
September 1st, 2008 at 11:47 amcnchess, you are exactly correct. If the polar bear had been hungry as does happen it would have eaten it. You just don’t see pictures of it happening because it’s not as cute as these are. And as an Alaskan resident their are a few things you to notice besides the fat on the bear as to how hungry he may be. The Whiter the fur the better nurished it is. Also it is important note that most food for the bear just runs away and does not bark and fight back as the only defense a chained dog has. So a younger bear may be confused by this and not know how to react. Most of these bears are young and may have just been driven off by the mother to fend for itself. And most polar bears are born in twos and may miss playing with a sibling. Some of these things are only observations and not fact, as like humans these animals have their own personalities and we don’t speak polar bear.
