Q: Where is SpaceX located? Where are its design and test facilities?
A: SpaceX headquarters is located in Hawthorne, California, near Los Angeles International Airport. Our vehicle manufacturing and design integration facilities are housed in Hawthorne’s 550,000 square foot facility, and it is here that we build all our space systems ‘from the ground up’. Engine and large-scale structural testing occurs at our 300-acre test site in McGregor, Texas, near Waco. SpaceX operates launch facilities at the Kwajalein Atoll (Reagan Test Site) in the Marshall Islands, at Cape Canaveral, Florida, and at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. SpaceX also maintains offices in Washington, D.C.
September 30th, 2008 at 1:49 pmThat’s fantastic! These SpaceX guys are the shit. They started from scratch in designing their rocket and made a motor that is more efficient than anything else in the US, with fewer moving parts. The nozzle is uncooled, and uses something like brake pad material as a lining that burns away in flight. They’ve got a bigger rocket with nine engines close to testing, and want to launch a manned space capsule fairly soon.
This company is very impressive. I’m looking forward to their future launches.
September 30th, 2008 at 3:15 pmThey launch from Omelek Island in the south pacific. It’s part of a ring of islands out there. Many military things happen in that region.
Elon Musk founded the company several years ago. (He’s the guy that founded PayPal and sold it.)
I know several key people on that team and they’re all great guys. Elon get’s prop’s for funding this out of pocket. Very few people put their money where their mouth is.
Look in the next year or two for their next BFR rocket to come on scene. (Big F’cking Rocket). This vehicle will be a direct competitor with Delta / Atlas flight vehicles.

He (Elon Musk) lives in Hollywood Hills and makes his rockets and has developed a new engine in LA near LAX. He drives a McClaren and was forced to launch outside the USA by our government.In Texas another dot com billionaire is also building rockets as is the guy who created the game Doom.
