Abbey Road crossing

Meet The Zimmers - the world’s oldest rock band.

They are on a mission to highlight the plight of pensioners, many of them fed up in old people’s homes, a world of afternoon naps and daytime television and five o’clock suppers.

To prepare for action, The Zimmers took over the famous Abbey Road studios and recreated the Beatles’ zebra crossing.

Making the recording

The 40 strong band with a combined age of over 3,000 has created a cover version of The Who’s classic song “My Generation”, to show that old people should not be brushed under the carpet.

They have been making a splash on websites including You Tube where they have ratcheted up over two million hits.

Alf Carretta

Alf is the Zimmers’ 90-year-old lead singer - seen here smashing the drums.
Alf hopes his music might help keep the local bingo hall open where he has made many friends over the years.

Buster Martin

At 100-years-old, Buster Martin is the oldest member of the group.
He works three days a week for Pimlico Plumbers.

He was recently in the news for giving as good as he got when he was attacked by muggers.

He is an inspiration to the band.
