I am noting a poo-pooing in the MSM of late of talking-heads regarding “independents” not supporting McPalin. And some have even stretched that to insist Hillary Clinton supporters aren’t as eager for the GOP ticket as has been reported.

However, not so much …

Clinton Supporters Aid Palin

By Michael Luo - (NYTimes) - October 14, 2008

Gov. Sarah Palin met with a group of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s former supporters Tuesday evening at a special fund-raising reception organized for them on behalf of the Republican ticket.

The reception, which organizers said brought in more than $500,000, was part of an extended evening of fund-raising for Ms. Palin and Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign at the Grand Hyatt in New York that officials estimated raised more than $8 million.

Ms. Palin, along with her husband, Todd, mingled and posed for pictures with the group of about 20, before appearing at the larger finance event, which McCain campaign officials said was the last time Mr. McCain would personally appear at a fund-raiser before the election. It was also the first time the pair had appeared together for donors.

More than 1,000 people paid $1,000 each for tickets to the main fund-raiser. Nearly 250 people who contributed $25,000 got dinner beforehand with Mr. McCain.

The reception for former Clinton supporters, which also was attended by Rick Davis, the McCain campaign manager, was spearheaded by Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a former telecommunications entrepreneur and “Hillraiser” who brought in more than $100,000 for Mrs. Clinton’s campaign; Calvin Fayard, also a former Hillraiser and longtime Democratic donor from Louisiana, and Miguel Lausell, a former senior political adviser to the Clinton campaign from Puerto Rico.

Other prominent former Clinton supporters in attendance included John Coale, a former Hillraiser, Washington lawyer and husband of Fox News television host Greta Van Susteren. (Me: HEH!!)

Everyone at the reception contributed $28,500 to McCain-Palin Victory 2008, a joint fund-raising committee for the Republican National Committee and several state Republican parties.

While Mrs. Clinton has implored her former supporters to back Senator Barack Obama, some still harbor ill will towards him, organizers said.

“These people want to give their vote of disapproval,” said Mr. Lausell. “This is a way they’re doing it.”

Meanwhile, the “racist/sexist” card-from-the-sleeve playing by Obama STILL stings sharply with the PUMA wing of the Hillary Clinton support crowd. As they state on their site … And yunz ALL know how I LOVE playing “Compare and Contrast” … Have a look:

Barack Obama might as well have called John McCain a “Nigga Hating Cracker”…

There we have it folks. McCain took the high road and came to Barack Obama’s defense when someone accused Obama of not being a patriotic American, an Arab, and a generally scary individual.

The next day what does Obama do? Why he goes on the offensive and quotes a line from the movie Malcolm X. Here is the context in which this line was used in the movie, and then go see how Obama uses it:

Malcolm X (as portrayed by Denzel Washington)

Malcolm X: I must emphasize at the out start that the Honorable Elijah Muhammad is not a politician. So I’m not here this afternoon as a Republican, nor as a Democrat; not as a Mason, nor as an Elk; not as a Protestant, nor a Catholic; not as a Christian, nor a Jew; not as a Baptist, nor a Methodist; in fact, not even as an American, because if I was an American, the problem that confronts our people today wouldn’t even exist.

So I have to stand here today as what I was when I was born: A black man.

Before there was any such thing as a Republican or a Democrat, we were black.

Before there was any such thing as a Mason or an Elk, we were black.

Before there was any such thing as a Jew or a Christian, we were black people!

In fact, before there was any such place as America, we were black!

And after America has long passed from the scene, there will still be black people.

I’m gonna tell you like it really is. Every election year these politicians are sent up here to pacify us! They’re sent here and setup here by the White Man!

This is what they do!

They send drugs in Harlem down here to pacify us!

They send alcohol down here to pacify us!

They send prostitution down here to pacify us!

Why you can’t even get drugs in Harlem without the White Man’s permission!

You can’t get prostitution in Harlem without the White Man’s permission!

You can’t get gambling in Harlem without the White Man’s permission!

Every time you break the seal on that liquor bottle, that’s a Government seal you’re breaking!

Oh, I say and I say it again, ya been had!

Ya been took!

Ya been hoodwinked!

Bamboozled!

Led astray!

Run amok!

This is what He does….

Now, as a black man in America, there are certain code words I know we use in the community which if taken in isolation might seem innocent, but when taken in proper context are among the most vile insults that can be heaped upon an individual.

Ever since Spike Lee’s Malcolm X was released, two words entered the popular lexicon of racial intolerance, those words are “hoodwinked” and “bamboozled” .

In isolation they might be innocent, however when a black man says a white man is “hoodwinking” and “bamboozling” black people, he might as well be saying that the person he is referring to is a “nigga hating cracker” . Taking it to its logical conclusion, same can be said about the supporters of that person (gosh darn it, I guess that makes me an Uncle Tom)

Either way, for reasons best known to Obama, this is the second time in this campaign he has used exactly this phraseology while giving a speech geared to a predominantly black audience. The first time he did was in South Carolina when he was referring to Bill Clinton. Afterwards, Bill went from being the first black President to a racist demagogue as far as the black community was concerned. Now in Philladelphia, he has chosen to do the same against John McCain.
