CNN, NBC, ABC call it for The Trash. Why are all the networs making these calls 2 hours before polls close in the West?

(CNN) — CNN projects that Sen. Barack Obama will win Pennsylvania, a state that Sen. John McCain campaigned in heavily in the final weeks before the election.

McCain and his running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin, visited the state 10 times in recent weeks as they tried to turn the blue state red.

With the projected win, Obama has 102 electoral votes.

McCain has won 34 electoral votes, according to CNN projections.

Polls are also closed in the key states of Florida, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia, but the races there are too close to call.

Obama’s projected wins include Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Vermont and Washington.

McCain is projected to pick up Oklahoma, South Carolina and Tennessee.

In order to win the presidential election, a candidate needs 270 electoral votes.

Obama and McCain are running a tight race in Indiana as results are tallied in the battleground state.

With about 40 percent of precincts reporting, McCain held a slim lead in the state.

In addition to the presidential contest, voters were making choices in a number of key House and Senate races that could determine whether the Democrats strengthen their hold on Congress.

Former Gov. Mark Warner, a Democrat, will win a Senate seat in Virginia, CNN projects. He will replace retiring Republican Sen. John Warner.

Delaware voters re-elected Obama’s running mate, Sen. Joe Biden, to his seventh term.
