CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) – Closing arguments have begun in the New Jersey trial of five men accused of plotting an attack on soldiers at Fort Dix.
The government is making its closing case first. The jury of eight women and four men is to start deliberating Tuesday.
Federal prosecutors say the five men agreed to kill soldiers and trained to do so. All five are foreign-born Muslims who lived for years in the Philadelphia suburb of Cherry Hill.
Defense lawyers say the five weren’t seriously planning anything and were goaded into talking about an attack by two paid FBI informants. There was no attack before the men were arrested in May 2007.
The men face life in prison if they’re convicted on the most serious counts, including conspiracy to kill military personnel and attempted murder.

CHICAGO (AP) – Embattled Gov. Rod Blagojevich is headed to work again as he continues to ignore calls for his resignation.
Blagojevich told reporters Monday that he was going to the office to sign a bill to give tax credits to filmmakers if they come to Illinois.
Blagojevich has refused to bow to pressure that he step down after he was accused of federal corruption, including trying to sell President-elect Barack Obama’s vacant Senate seat.
The governor also was asked if he saw “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, which had a parody about him. Blagojevich said he hadn’t seen the show.

“The U.S. forces’ brutal acts were the reason which pushed him to throw his shoes at Bush,†she added.

RUSH: Ladies and gentlemen, I want to thank all of you for your e-mails of support regarding this interview that Colin Powell did on CNN yesterday. The whole thing wears me out. It’s nothing new except now it’s coming from ostensibly the Republican Party. Now, Snerdley is livid, many of my staff and friends are livid. To me, it’s not that big a deal. I think Powell’s premise — and I understand what’s going on — I think Powell’s premise is all wrong. The Republican Party needs to stop listening to me. Basically, what that means is the Republican Party’s gotta throw you overboard; the Republican Party can’t win as long as it is defined by people like you and me, those of you in this audience. The simple fact of the matter is, folks, what makes this funny to me is that the Republican Party’s not listened to me in the last two years. And you might even say in matters of policy and so forth, the Republican Party hasn’t been listening to me for the last six years. And you might even say that the Republican Party is in the situation it’s in precisely because of the people like Colin Powell and John McCain and others who have devised this new definition and identity of the party which is responsible for electing Democrats all over this country…..continue…..

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – Federal investigators in Alaska say an accelerant was poured around the exterior of Gov. Sarah Palin’s home church before it was heavily damaged by a fire.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said Monday that the accelerant was poured at several locations around the church, including entrances.
Federal Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Special Agent Nick Starcevic says laboratory tests will determine what the accelerant was.
The blaze was set at the main entrance of the Wasilla Bible Church on Friday evening while a small group, including two children, were inside. No one was injured.
Palin, the former Republican vice presidential candidate, was not at the church at the time of the fire but visited on Saturday.
