Aides play defense on Sunday shows

ncoming White House aides pushed the new administration’s plans for a large stimulus package, while playing defense on the corruption case of Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich on the Sunday talk shows this morning.

President-elect Barack Obama and other top aides held closed-door conversation with federal prosecutors investigating the case last week.

“They wanted to know anything that he knew about it,” said top adviser David Axelrod on NBC’s “Meet The Press.” “They just wanted to probe and see if there was anything more he could add.”

The Obama team has no plans to release notes or transcripts from staff interviews about the case, said Axelrod, who took pains to separate the incoming administration from the scandal.

“We’re innocent bystanders in this process,” said Axelrod on CBS’s “Face The Nation.”
