Oprah Winfrey, who gave President-elect Barack Obama a crucial boost during the early primaries, is celebrating his Inauguration by bringing her powerhouse television show to Washington for the week.

“See you there,” Winfrey told “Access Hollywood” in an interview. “That’s the place to be.”

Winfrey said she has rented out the Opera House at the Kennedy Center to film the show, “Access Hollywood” reported.

The Opera House — with a crystal chandelier, luxurious red velvet and a red-and-gold silk curtain, seats 2,318 and is home to the Washington National Opera, spectacular concerts and the annual Kennedy Center Honors.

During Obama’s acceptance speech the night he won, tears streamed down Winfrey’s cheeks as she leaned on an Obama campaign worker.

“There are not even words to talk about what this night means,” Winfrey told Maria Menounos of “Access Hollywood” that night. “Everybody keeps using the word ‘historic.’ There’s never been a night like this on the planet Earth. … Nothing can compare to this.”

The top-rated “Oprah Winfrey Show” is broadcast in 141 countries and is seen by an estimated 44 million viewers per week in the United States.

Winfrey held rallies for Obama a year ago in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, and feted donors in September at her estate in Santa Barbara, Calif.

D.C. Bars Allowed to Stay Open ‘Round the Clock During Inauguration Week:

The D.C. Council approves a bill allowing bars and restaurants to stay open for four days around Barack Obama’s presidential inauguration.

(FOX)

WASHINGTON — The D.C. Council has approved emergency legislation allowing the city’s bars, nightclubs and restaurants to stay open around the clock for four days around President-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration.

The bill allows any establishment with a liquor license to serve alcohol until 5 a.m. and serve food at any hour from Jan. 17 until the morning of Jan. 21.

The council approved the measure in a 9-4 vote Tuesday and was pushed by the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington. The organization says the inauguration is a rare event that is worthy of special rules.

Councilman Phil Mendelson was among those voting against it, saying the relaxed regulations could cause more crime, violence and drunken driving.
