Sometimes The Mighty Don’t Have To Fall, Just Stagger A Bit To Realize They Aren’t On Higher Ground

What can you say?

She is just one of many limo-lib elites that spent the last 8 years blindly hammering the most powerful world leader … a leader who happened to be their President … and even went so far (stepson) as to poor-tray him in some slapstick flick of weirdo fiction.

They bitched and moaned for 8 years … producing nothing of worth from all that slander.

And all the while the man accepted the rocks and arrows thrown at him without complaint while the true wounds to his heart and soul were inflicted by the responsibility he completely accepted for the wounds and deaths of the men and women he sent into war(s). Never once did “I did not have …” slip past his lips to the American people. With the loyalty, bravery, blood, sweat, tears and skill of hundreds of thousands of our military men and women freed over 50 million people, and pushed back at the growing cancer of terrorism that had been allowed to fester for decades.

Over the 8 years I recall hearing on more than one occasion some self-righteous celebrity come away a bit mellowed after having met Pres. George W. Bush, aka Hitler.

Bono and Bob Geldof both have given the man credit for having helped the world’s poor and AIDS relief, especially Africa, more than any previous POTUS. Though they will never see eye to eye with the man’s conviction of strength and doing the very hard and unpopular thing, they know he does believe deeply in what he practices.

But then, you wouldn’t expect people who center their lives around and live off of “popular” to understand how someone could actually do things that weren’t popular.

And then there was the ‘Kiss Seen Round The World’ …

I was never a real fan of Ms. Streisand. My exposure to her was mostly via my beloved Aunt/Godmother who adored her and had every album she had ever released (until her death a couple Thanksgivings ago).

MsUnderestimated emailed me something she came across and we both are nodding our heads in a bit of “I told you so” to the superstar songstress … who appears to have had a bit of her own “Bush Moment”.

The Kennedy Center Honors

Last weekend, I was in Washington DC to accept the Kennedy Center Honors, and I noticed that the kiss between me and the “soon to be former” President Bush created quite a stir. The Today Show even proclaimed that it was a sign of the apocalypse. The timing is ironic. After eight years of President Clinton and on the cusp of at least four years of President Obama, I get selected to receive this prestigious award…during the Bush Administration. I have never met George W. Bush, but for the past eight years I have been blogging about him and his administration on my web site. I have relayed my frustration at the direction he has taken our country in no uncertain terms. So it was just as surprising to me as it apparently was to the press that upon meeting President Bush and extending my hand to him, he said to me, “Aw c’mon, gimme a hug and a kiss,” and then he proceeded to embrace me. I must say, I found him very warm and completely disarming…even though I think he was kissing me hello as I was kissing him goodbye…

During the White House ceremony, the President described each honorees attributes. After he listed mine, he added, “She’s also been known to speak her mind,” to which the audience first laughed and then applauded. I genuinely thought he was very funny and very gracious.

During the Kennedy Center Honors, President Bush gave me his signature wink (which he must have passed on to Sarah Palin) and mouthed, “We showed ‘em.” I guess in some small way, he and I proved that we could agree to disagree, and, for that weekend, art transcended politics.

(But then it’s easy to wax gently when your political Messiah is about to take office in a couple weeks …)
