WND:

Obama snubs vets, skips Heroes ball
Becomes 1st new president to miss inauguration event

By Drew Zahn

Since its inception in 1953, every new president has attended The Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball – until now.

The ball was created for President Dwight Eisenhower’s inauguration to honor recipients of the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military award. The event is sponsored by the American Legion and co-sponsored by 13 other veteran’s service organizations, including the Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

And while 48 of the nation’s 99 living recipients of the Medal of Honor attended the event, reports the Cleveland Leader and various self-attested attendees of the ball, newly sworn-in President Barack Obama became the first president in 56 years to skip out on the ceremony.

Obama’s itinerary on Inauguration Day, however, did include attendance at 10 balls in his honor, many of which were graced by a cast of the nation’s biggest music and movie stars.

According to a Sofia News Agency report, the president and first lady began at the Neighborhood Ball, dancing to the song “At Last,” performed by popular music star Beyoncé. The dance also boasted attendees Stevie Wonder, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Faith Hill, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Adam Levine, Sting, Mariah Carey and Leonardo DiCaprio.

The Obamas also attended the Home State Ball for Illinois and Hawaii, the Youth Inaugural Ball, a handful of regional balls and the Commander-in-Chief Ball, which was also attended by veterans and members of the military.

At the Commander-in-Chief Ball, the Sofia News Agency reports, Obama took time to address veterans.

“It is wonderful to be surrounded by some of the very best and bravest Americans,” Obama said. “Your courage, your grace and your patriotism inspire us all.”

News of new president’s snub of the Heroes ball, however, launched a flurry of comment on the blogosphere, from angry veterans questioning if this is what Obama means by “change” to supporters who have labeled the whole story a hoax, claiming the ball never took place.

The Jackson Sun, however, reports of at least one veteran who attended the Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C., and the Blackfive blog reports receiving a press release from the American Legion about the controversy.

According to the blog, the Legion’s media relations manager Craig Roberts wrote, “President Obama was invited but did not attend. Vice-President Joe Biden did appear, however, and was very warmly received. The new President’s absence was understandable considering the unprecedented logistical challenges presented by the vastly increased number of visitors to this inauguration and the necessary attendant security measures. The American Legion, as an organization, does not feel offended or ’snubbed.’”

Come on guys….we all know that Obama only supports the troops if there are at least 5 news agencies with cameras following him. I mean we knew that ever since Germany.

  2. AZ Patriot (Μολὼν λαβέ)

Yeah I hear they say he can suck start M1A2 Abrams

  3. Impressed many in the Military by his display of patriotic ritual? Really? So could you name someone in the Military please who was impressed by his taking part in a ritual that every president before him has done since the construction of the Tomb? Has the Military been impressed with every president before him with this single act? Get over yourself you fucking sycophantic, propaganda vomiting tool of the obamanation. Yea, we’re all thoroughly impressed. We’re even more impressed by his insistance that the surge would fail and that the war is lost. We’re also really impressed that his efforts to sue banks to force them to give subprime loans worked out so well for our economy. Fucking die matthews. Degenerate pig.

I won’t even waste my time watching Mr. Tingles have another O-gasm. Far as being “impressed”, somehow I doubt it. Respectful of the office of the presidency? Absolutely. Our boys are professionals.

That’s funny, all the military people I know are disgusted that a man who holds the communist ideals in such high regard is in the office.

Something about Democrats being better at getting us killed for nothing than republicans. I think I’ll make up some “Not My” stickers to put next to every wall display with his picture and title. Have to show him the same respect they’ve shown us after all.

Matthews is engaging in propaganda. Leftists know that Obama is not someone whom the military respects. What is there to respect about a radical socialist who never wore the uniform, who has admitted to drug use, who has attended for 20 years a church where the lead pastor gives sermons damning America, who has been a pal to former Weathermen who bombed the Pentagon and the Capitol building and whose brief Senate career included opposition to the surge and to our efforts in the Iraq War? So leftists such as Matthews make up stories to say the opposite of what they really know is true.

Obambi has done precious little to impress even an average joe like me. So how is he supposed to have impressed the military, whose standards of “impression” are a lot higher than mine, especially considering that they have to do this idiots bidding and put their lives on the line for him for at least the next 4 years :???:

  8. FRANK-O

lets just be honest, he didnt impress anyone in any service branch with any of his stunts. But apparently there is a large majority of people in this country who think this man, who has no knowledge or experience militarily, is the man to lead the country in a time of war and economic crisis.

  9. I didn’t even get the other piece that may or may not have been a big deal. Later on, he was talking about the same thing and he PLAINLY said “at the tomb of the unknown soldierS” (plural). It just sounded so wrong to me; isn’t it the “Tomb of the Unknown Soldier?” Isn’t that the correct way?

If not, please correct me so I can know if I was correctly offended or not. There’s only one soldier in a tomb, although it signifies all “unknown soldiers,” but DAMNIT it still burned me the way he said, er, ah, SPIT it out as a plural.

  10. Damn, I got “correct” happy in that comment, didn’t I? Sorry. LOL
