Jewish anger as pope reinstates Holocaust-denier
JERUSALEM — Israel’s Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial and the Simon Wiesenthal Centre on Sunday slammed a Holocaust-denying English bishop whose ex-communication has been cancelled by Pope Benedict XVI.
“It is scandalous that someone of this stature in the Church denies the Holocaust,” the institution said in a statement, referring to Bishop Richard Williamson who has publicly denied the murder of six million Jews during World War II.
“Denial of the Holocaust not only insults the survivors, memory of the victims and the righteous among the nations who risked their lives to rescue the Jews, it is a brutal attack on truth,” Yad Vashem said.
“What kind of message is this sending regarding the Church’s attitude toward the Holocaust?”
The Wiesenthal Centre, an international Jewish human rights body, said: “The Pope’s decision to welcome back such a hater into the Church lends moral credence to deniers of history’s worst crime.
“In addition to Bishop Williamson’s Holocaust denial looms the unchanging virulent anti-Semitism of the Society of Saint Pius as a whole,” it said.
The pope cancelled the ex-communication of Williamson and three other bishops in a bid to heal a 20-year schism with traditionalists led by rebel French archbishop Marcel Lefebvre.
The Roman Catholic Church published an edict lifting the 1998 sanction on Lefebvre’s successor Bernard Fellay and three other bishops in his breakaway conservative movement, including Williamson.
He is on record as denying the existence of the gas chambers.
“I believe there were no gas chambers…. I think that 200,000 to 300,000 Jews perished in Nazi concentration camps but none of them by gas chambers,” Williamson was quoted as saying in an interview with Swedish SVT television.
“There was not one Jew killed by the gas chambers. It was all lies, lies, lies!”
Italian Jewish groups criticised the decision as a “negative, worrying and incomprehensible signal” on Saturday.
Uneasy relations between the Vatican and Israel have been further strained by plans to declare Nazi-era Pope Pius XII a saint, despite widespread criticism of his inaction during the Holocaust.

Reinstate his Excommunication….he is way to stupid to be a Bishop….
I’m not sure what Vatican politics are at play, but there definitely is something going on there. Pope Benedict has been doing some behind the scenes stuff to counterattack Islam. It appears that he is getting the Catholic Church into some of the closed Islamic Countries around the Arabian Gulf.
Rome is not on Israel’s side.
Behind the scenes stuff like when Pope Benedict prayed towards Mecca on his last visit to Constantinople? That really went a long way to healing the thousand yr old schism with the Eastern Church right? Sure pleased the muslim overlords in Turkey and elsewhere… Or when Pope John Paul kissed the Koran in full public view?
I have respect for these Popes as men of peace sure, but sometimes I just can’t help but question their deeds. The MSM and atheists everywhere see such inconsistent displays and think well if Church leaders are going around kissing Korans and praying towards Mecca, heck it’s okay to throw our full support behind jihadis then..
In this instance however they should have the courage to excommunicate holocaust-denying morons in their ranks, no two-ways about it. Not doing so will again be sending the wrong message.
I invite this fuck to walk the grounds of Dachau, then tell me there was no Holocast. The horror is palatable even today. You can walk through the holding rooms, and ’shower’ area where the people were gassed. For God’s sake man, you can see the walls scratched by the fingernails of the victims!! This man is unfit to represent Christianity in any capacity.
Just further proof tha “Holy Father” Pope is not holy. It is time for the true Christians within the Catholic Chirch to leave the doctrine of men, who would prevert the truth. The Bible makes it clear that Israel is God’s special people and he will never forsake them. Infact in Romans Chapters 8-11 the apostle Paul teaches that God’s unfailing love for Israel is an example of God’s mercy and grace to us…if God won’t reject the Jews, neither will He reject us who freely choose Him. FUrthermore, Hitler could not have succeeded as he did against the Jews without the help of the Catholic Church…that pact is documented history.
As a historian, I can tell you he is a real Jew hater. Listen carefully to how he parses his words. Even Bill Clinton could learn at the knee of this man.
His evidence is cherry-picked in a most illogical manner, and he comes from the David Irving School of Nuttery. The Germans ventilated the chambers (there is substantial evidence on how they dealt with this problem), and the doors at Auschwitz, if I recall, are recreations today. The Germans demolished the gas chambers at the end of the war. In addition to the testimony of firsthand witnesses of any number of nationalities, you have the testimony, some of it late in life (think death bed-style confessions) of the Germans themselves–including Rudolf Hoess, the Commandant of Auschwitz, where the first gassing were in two small houses made air tight. Hoess never denied it and in fact, wrote a long essay on it after his arrest freely admitting the gassing and killing of Jews (I believe his own estimate was 1.2 million at the camp.
I agree that 6,000,000 were not “gassed.” But millions were killed by the Einsatzgrupen squads in the occupied lands of the East, especially in Poland and the Baltic states.
What an embarrassment, and what a shame.
I hope that he does not represent true Catholics, because as a jewish person I would be worried

He’s doing a disservice to catholicism by believing in all this other garbage.
It is not called the Roman Catholic Church for nothing. And anything with the name Roman in it should give anyone a clue as to how in touch this group will be. The Romans haven’t been in touch since about the 3rd century. And the Roman Catholic Church has been out of touch with reality for at least as long. So for one of their bishops to deny a much documented historical event is not so surprising. Being a frustrated, masturbating, closeted idiot is part and parcel of the requirements to advance in the Roman Catholic Church.
And anyone would be surprised that a church that is still buried in its own 3rd century dogma would say something as stupid as this mush brained bishop said. And anyone should be surprised that the church doesn’t ban this mush brained bishop from ever saying another word representing this antiquated church. Not surprising at all to me. This church attempts to rule a contemporary church body from a glittering cave in a little corner of Italian land. Pull your head out Benedict.
