The Telegraph:

Prince Harry has become embroiled in a new race row after allegedly telling comedian Stephen K Amos that he did not “sound like a black chap”.

Mr Amos has claimed that the Prince made the remark when they met after the stand-up show We Are Not Amused for the Prince of Wales’ 60th birthday celebrations in November 2008.

Mr Amos, from south-west London, made the disclosure on Five’s The Wright Stuff on Tuesday.

He told presenter Matthew Wright that Prince Harry, 24, congratulated him on his performance before saying: “You don’t sound like a black chap.”

As Mr Wright looked on in disbelief, Mr Amos added: “I wanted to say, ‘How is I supposed to sound?’”

Asked if the remark had been made in jest, he replied: “I hope it was.”

The comedian, who has appeared on many television shows including the BBC’s Have I Got News For You, put the comment down to a poor attempt at making banter.

However, fellow panellist Lowri Turner, the television presenter, then said: “That’s not the point.”

The new row comes just a month after Prince Harry was accused of racism when it emerged he had referred to a Sandhurst colleague as “our little Paki friend”.

It was also recently disclosed in The Daily Telegraph’s Mandrake column that he, Prince William and the Prince of Wales affectionately refer to their Asian friend Kolin Dhillon, a fellow member of Cirencester Polo club, as “Sooty”.

Prince Harry was also heavily criticised in 2005 after choosing to wear a Nazi uniform to a fancy dress party.

The latest incident has angered equality groups.

Naomi Byron, national secretary of Youth Against Racism in Europe, told The Mirror: “Many young people will be disgusted by his remark – how is a black man meant to sound?
“But it is not just Prince Harry that is at fault. The aristocratic, rich circles he moves in obviously don’t have a problem with this kind of racist stereotyping.”

Former Commission for Racial Equality chairman Lord Herman Ouseley said: “It is very sad that Prince Harry thinks black people all talk in the same way.

“It just goes to show how ill-educated members of the upper classes can be.”

A spokesman for Clarence House declined to confirm if the allegation was true.

He said: “We do not comment on allegations about private conversations involving the Royals.”

  1. Last time I looked, I/we have bigger things to worry about. I´m now approaching the point of not giving a shit.

Ahhh, well this is the end of the world…the pc crowd needs to get a grip!

  3. Upon reflection, what´s he bitching about? Hell, after high school, it took me a whole 2 or 3 years and aprox 1 ton of reefer before somebody told me - ¨you don´t sound like a white guy!¨

  4. Dan (The Infidel)

BFD. Get a fucking grip Brits. Harry is sounding more and more like my favorite squaddie. He’s just a regular dude.

Get over yourselves Brits. You ain’t that important.

  5. USNA1985

I don’t know about you guys, but it has been my experience that no one from Britain ’sounds’ black given the fact that they all have British accents.

Absolutely right! Everytime I’ve been there, same conclusion. Here, on the other hand, sounding like you’ve never heard English words pronounced is a point of pride in some circles.

Tactless of Harry, yet, wtf cares? Not like he’s going to be king.

People are way too fuckin sensitive these days. I mean shit, his comments were not malicious. If anything he sounds like a normal dude to me. And why is it always ok for black comedians to make fun of white people (we can laugh at ourselves) but the moment a white person makes a single, benign, race-oriented remark its fuckin pandemonium?

This makes me like Prince Harry, I think he should tell the BBC and their minions to fuck themselves and shove their PC BS up their cunts.

wearing a nazi uniform as a gag is irresponsible for someone of his stature in his country, and I would say the same for anyone in our government.

That being said, holy crap the british are becomming so pc and cowardly that I can hardly call them democratic anymore. They give in to whoever complains the most, and that is not what a democracy such as theirs is supposed to be.

    Black racism

He coulda said “you don’t sound like no nigga”

I’m british and let me tell you we don’t all sound the same. We have lods of totally different accents including a typical black one.
I don’t think Harry was being racist and people need to get a grip. I mean he was just making a conversation you know.

  14. geez..this is dumb..look at tony gwynn-everyone can agree that he’s the whitest sounding black man ever..by the same token look at ’snow’ the canadian reggae singer who put out ‘informer’-no one could believe the guy was white when they heard his voice, people said the same thing about elvis_ it’s not a racist thing _ we cant ignore race, we should embrace it..and respect each others differences-how lame would it be if we were all the same>? as for the paki comment..if the guy was pakistani then go team..we refer to jewish people as jews
