We recently adopted a pup from an animal rescue center. He is a little over 4lbs. We live in a downtown area but have 3 adult hawks and 3 juvenile hawks in our neighborhood that have been cruising over our backyard. I stay out with our pup, but my cousin who does wildlife animal rescue says she has had hawks take 2 of her ducklings of a fair size and a woodpecker she raised from birth away when she was within 4 to 10 feet from them. I need advice on how to protect our little guy. Can not stand the thought of anything happening to him, much less that. If anyone has had to deal with this please let me know. Thanks

That Hawk was performing a valuable service. Those fuzzy little tree rats breed like roaches and can eat up some shit. They ate the led roof vents on the top of my house and cost me big money. Screw em.

 Jenny

Hate to break it to ya but squirrels in my backyard are workout toys for my greyhound. Squirrels may be fast but Duke (my dog) gets up to 45 mph in 3 steps ... squirrels have no idea what's coming. When he is about 5 feet from them I can swear I see their eyes open wider and an "Aw, shit!" look on their faces.

Why do I get the feeling we will soon be reading a story where someone killed the squirrel as vengeance on the hawk?

Here is the problem I have with this, by providing large amounts of food, this man created a draw for prey animals. And suddenly he is upset when the predators show up as a result. The guy is a complete dumbass. I mean come on, he banned his cat from the outdoors for eating critters. What the hell, you cannot stop animals from acting on millions of years of evolved instinct. This guy is a loon, a kind hearted loon but a loon none the less.

Sure, I can understand his attachment to the squirrel since he hand raised it by hand, but there are measures he could have taken to ensure that the hawk wouldn't have gotten the squirrel that would not have involved shooting the hawk.

That's exactly the way leftists think : Kill the hawk to save the squirrels. As if squirrels are on a way of extinction.

Squirrel tastes better than hawk, so why shoot the hawk? I mean, as a good conservationist, you do eat what you shoot, right?

Spotted owl is all right, but a bit too stringy.

Why the hell would you shoot the hawk. Hell that would make a hell of a lot cooler pet than some bush-tail-crack-mouse.

Well, he's humble and mature about it. I mean, squirrels may be assholes (Wait-I was about to say I eat them but I just said they were assholes too) ok--disregard. Anyway, it was his pet-what if it were a poodle? OK, take the poodle. If it were my lab Bonnie (though a hawk wouldn't fuck with her she's too big) but if...I'd shoot the hawk.
