Schumer Vomits On Rotten Stimulus Pork

Sen. Schumer has pledged to undo a provision included in the stimulus package that will make it nearly impossible for New York’s banks to hire foreign workers through the H-1B visa program.
The amendment to the stimulus bill, proposed by Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Chuck Grassley, D-Iowa, originally would have banned the visas for any company that received money from the Troubled Assets Relief Program, or TARP. A compromise lifted the ban, but companies will still be required to hire from the growing pool of laid-off American workers first. Advocates say that the mandate is so onerous that it will virtually stop banks from bringing foreign workers into the country.
According to a report released last year by the Partnership for New York City, roughly 13,000 workers in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut are here on H-1B visas. The top visa sponsors in the area are the very same banks that have received TARP money. Those banks also have significant overseas operations, says Kathy Wylde, and this provision will hurt most when the economy turns around and the banks look to hire talent to tap new markets.
“When they require someone with a language or other skill who they feel is the best person for the job, if they can’t bring them to New York, they will move the function,†says Wylde. “That’s what’s happened in the past when we’ve had a shortage of the H-1B visas.â€
Since the bill was signed with the provision included, Schumer will need to undo it in another bill, which could be tough sledding.
“This is a counterproductive amendment that could hurt New York’s economy, and we are going to work hard to change it,†Schumer says.

I work in telecom and now that Level3, Verizon Business and a lot more companies have moved many of their operations to places like the Brazil, India and the Philipines, I get to work with worthless assholes who I can’t understand and who can’t understand me and who could give a fuck if the work gets done or not. They get paid a fucking dollar a day and I get to spend most of that day on the phone trying to get them to understand what the fuck I am saying and me trying like hell to do my fucking job with “Steve” from India who reads from a script and knows as much about telecom as Obama knows about telling the fucking truth.
We always hear in the media these wall street types and politicians who have been paid off by lobbyists that we must participate in the global economy, well I can tell you from first hand experience that the global economy sucks a dick!
We should bring our factories back here, get rid of the over-reaching unions that fucked up everything and give American jobs to fucking Americans! For fuck sake.

There’s a guy I know whose mother used to work for the demcoRAT party in New York City. She was intimately involved in party politics. She knew Chucky Cheese when he was a nobody in state politics. They used to have regular meetings with Chucky to tell him what to say, when to say it, where to say it and how to say it. She considered him to be a dunce with strings attached to every orifice. Nothing went into his head that the party bosses didn’t put there. Yet my stupid neighbors here in New York keep voting for this idiot. And I live in a neighborhood of mostly college-educated professionals making well in excess of $125,000 per year. Go figure.

Downstate is so damn “blue” that the the balance of the state is NYC’s bitch. There has been talk for many a year that upstate secede from downstate and become its own state.
