Drill: All Clear!

Well, I’m A-OK, folks.
I promise to be back up and running tomorrow on the site.
For the last couple months the doc hasn’t liked how the hemoglobin level had dropped in my blood work. So, after ruling out other reasons, he decided I should have the dreaded colonoscopy to make certain that wasn’t a source of blood-loss … and one reason would be cancer.
I’ll spare you the Katie Couric-like firsthand report of the actual test today. Besides, I was asleep.
Simply said, the doctor found nothing out of the ordinary, and has insisted I add an iron supplement to my diet. My Dad says I don’t eat enough … But I was also anemic as a kid, so I guess it’s coming back to me now.
However, I had no idea my pre-test prep would be as difficult as it ended up being. I am used to fasting and figured it would be nothing, except forcing myself to drink that horrid gallon of “Draino” the day before … (They call it “Go-lightly” … my ass … literally.)
Until a full-fledged migraine hit, and I couldn’t take anything for it. By yesterday evening my sight was useless and I was packing my head in ice. By the time Pat gave me a call I wasn’t even keeping down the “Draino” … so I was good and dehydrated too, and crawled into bed.
Anyhow, it’s all over, and they shot me something in the IV this morning for the migraine at the hospital before the test.
My doc is a good guy. He is extra careful because he had two patients in their early 50s die from colon cancer … because they didn’t have the routine colonoscopy done at 50, and didn’t come in until they were acutely symptomatic. By then it was too late. The couple day prep was the worst part (and you have probably been through far worse) … the test was absolutely nothing.
If you are due … please see your doc and have the test done.
Peace of mind is the best gift you can give yourself.
You guys are the best.
Thank you for all the good thoughts, wishes and prayers.
I can’t tell you how much they meant to me when I saw them tonight.
Thatisall …
Maggie

Damn glad that you received such good news. Test and prep sounds bloody fucking awful, but one has to know. Red meat, girl; and it should still try to get away when you stick with the fork.
Nice to hear that you on your way back!
Maggie,
BTDT, and I echo your advise. The procedure itself is absolutely nothing. You go to sleep, and then you wake up. Drinking that stuff is OK at first, but it gets old fast. But you are absolutely right about the peace of mind.
Now, to you who are thinking of getting “virtual” colonoscopies. You may very well have polyps, and will need a real colonoscopy to have them snipped out anyway, so why not just do it right in the first place.
I’m glad you are OK.
Glad your okay and I appreciate the lack of blow by colon blow details
I told my wife I like women doctors because they have smaller fingers. She didn’t get it. But that changes next year, Here comes the scope.
I have prayed for you and am glad to hear this. Hope you feel better quickly! You were missed around here.
D
Outstanding Maggie!!
Well I’m glad the milkshake was the worst part.
Glad you’re okay, Drill. I’m heading for my 5th colonoscopy in the coming months. (Yep, I’m over 60…or do I just like the scope? You’ll never know.
)
Welcome back to Dollard Land. Now…get BACK to work.
Glad to see you’re ok.
I’m really glad that you’re OK, getting older sucks, but it sure beats the alternative.
WOOOOO HOOOOO!!!
Great news!!
Been there done that… Gald you are OK!!!
GREAT NEWS !!!!!
It looks like we have to put up with you for a while longer.
That is GOOD news!
You take care of yourself. His Peace to you.
Glad you are okay!
My Dad had colon cancer at 72 but was able to beat it.
Thank God.
Good to hear! Get some rest, you deserve it.
What a blessing!
So glad you are alright Maggie!
Don’t overdo it too soon though. You went through quite a bit and very stressful time.
yhea good health
Whew! Glad to hear it Drill!
Great news! God Bless!
Drill, great news. Also thanks for the reminder, I’m 49 and a friend just told me he had his colonoscopy this week. Now, get off your ass and get back to work.
Great news Drill
Welcome back, hopefully to light duties for at least a few days
Drill, glad to hear you’re ok! And, on the draino subject, that stuff is horrid. Opie and Anthony had a rather idiotic fan of theirs in the studio, and had him drink 2…yes, 2 bottles of that stuff. then made him walk the streets of NYC in nothing but depend’s. I saw the result once it finally hit. they video’ed it. OOOF. Curiosity killed the colon.
My deepest sympathies for having to imbibe that noxious stuff.
Maggie,
Glad to hear all is well. NEO would not be the same neither would Dollard Nation without you. I have lost too many family members to various cancer over the past 10 years, I was directed by the doc yesterday to go see an oral surgeon.
Congrats, Maggie! I get to see my new internist next week. (Haven’t seen a doctor in 20+ years.) I have the feeling he’s gonna schedule me for my first colonscopy as well.
I agree with Bouke: Getting older sucks, but it beats the alternative.
I am glad your back!
Glad to hear!
Happy to hear the good news. You worried us, don’t do that again.
Glad everything turned out well in the end though. Sorry, just had to say it.
Not sure if the doc appreciated my recovery room half-doped-up question:
“What, Doc, no flowers and candy?”
God Bless you Maggie!
Glad to have you back in the saddle.
Great news Maggie.
I went to a funeral last night, you were very much in my thoughts.
Welcome back to the fight.
Drill
“What, Doc, no flowers and candy?â€
I can hear you saying that!
The things we have to do to stay well!!!
Welcome Back!!!
