TPTB at the NYTimes is either too stupid or foolish to recognize the core reason why their paper is landfill poison … and it’s not the “recession”.

Their blatant bias in dealing with politics, the Iraq War, Homeland Security, the Bush administration, Gitmo, Abu Ghraib … and most recently their handling (mishandling) of Election 2008 … their lying, making up stories and photographs, and leaking of national secrets has completely dissolved any legitimacy as far as being a ‘news agency’. What they have done in the last eight years alone would have gotten them shut down and jailed in different times.

It’s a damn dirty shame one of the founding publications in the most free and powerful nation in the world has become so untrustworthy … and worthless.

Journalistic suicide.

The Business Insider:

New York Times Stock Now Costs Less Than Sunday Paper

by Henry Blodget

And getting cheaper all the time!

Check out this very ugly chart.

Shares of NYT (NYT) dropped 29 cents today to close at $3.77. The Sunday paper goes for $4 at the newsstand.

Maybe they could save costs by printing the paper on their stock certificates.

New York Times suspends dividend

NEW YORK - The board of The New York Times Co. has decided to suspend the newspaper publisher’s quarterly dividend in a move to preserve cash as advertising spending continues to decline amid the recession.

The suspension of the payout comes after New York Times slashed its dividend to 6 cents from 23 cents in November.

“Today’s decision provides the company with additional financial flexibility given the current economic environment and the uncertain business outlook,” said Arthur Sulzberger, Jr., chairman, in a statement. “We expect the suspension of the dividend, coupled with our other actions, will help us decrease debt and improve the liquidity of the company, a difficult but prudent measure in this operating environment.”

Politico:

Iseman drops lawsuit against Times

Vicki Iseman has dropped her $27 million lawsuit against The New York Times, according to a staff memo obtained by Politico.

The memo, from Washington bureau chief Dean Baquet, is below.

To the staff,

Vicki Iseman has dropped her lawsuit against The Times, just weeks after it was filed. We paid no money. We did not apologize. We did not retract one word of the story, which was a compelling chapter in the tale of Senator John McCain and his political rise.

The story stands as a powerful examination of a presidential candidate who cast himself as an ethics reformer and scourge of special interests, yet seemed blind at times over the course of his career to appearances of conflicts of interest.

The article was the result of deep reporting, dozens of interviews and an abundance of caution. I am as proud now of the work of the reporters — David Kirkpatrick, Jim Rutenberg, Stephen Labaton, and Marilyn Thompson — as I was the day it ran.

In Friday’s paper we are publishing a note to readers that repeats what we had already said in countless interviews, that the article did not state or intend to conclude that Ms. Iseman had engaged in a romantic relationship with Mr. McCain.

We let Ms. Iseman’s lawyers have their say in a commentary on the Web, with a response from Bill Keller. Why? Because that’s what we do. We let people we write about have their say.

Dean Baquet

Although the Times piece was widely interpreted as indicating an affair could have taken place between McCain and Iseman, the Times never stated outright there was a romantic relationship. That would have been a significant legal hurdle for Iseman’s lawyers to overcome in trying to win the defamation suit.

UPDATE: The Times has posted a joint statement and statement from Iseman’s lawyers. And below is the reader’s note that will appear in Friday’s print edition

A Note to Readers

An article published on Feb. 21, 2008, about Senator John McCain and his record as an ethics reformer who was at times blind to potential conflicts of interest included references to Vicki Iseman, a Washington lobbyist. The article did not state, and The Times did not intend to conclude, that Ms. Iseman had engaged in a romantic affair with Senator McCain or an unethical relationship on behalf of her clients in breach of the public trust.

The day the newspapers die will be a great day, what most people don’t get is the city daily’s are written by a bunch of brain washed 27 year old dicks… and dickettes, fresh out of the university toilet. Soon they won’t be able to get a job at starbucks. I’m luvin it.

  3. Bob USMC

I did notice that 6 or 7 reporters had gotten jobs in the Obama Administration.

Perhaps they’ll work in is Ministry of Propaganda? :gun:

The NYT, et al., no entity deserves to reap what they sow more than them. Good riddance if they go. Another bonus would be a name change for Times Square. I would suggest something more fitting and reflective of New York City … maybe Socialist Square or Liberal Square or, even, New Red Square.

 Bob USMC. I seen that. Its like rats abandoning a sinking ship only to find the ship that they looked for salvation is plague infested.

  6. Bob USMC

Yea Mike, and the corrupt liberal media is what created that plague, so let them rot with it in due time. What the media creates they also eventually tear down.

Thankfully, the silver lining in this whole thing is that Obama and his sleazy actions may be the best thing to happen to conservative resolve in many years. :gun:

  7. dacoelec

Obama will bail this travesty of a “newspaper” out. Wait and see.

  8. see ya ny times . a good lesson leared about writing the truth, and being belived. :gun:

  9. Deathstar

    F the NYT.

  10. Dan (The Infidel)

Let the NY Slime return to the cesspool that it oozed out of in the first place. Same goes for the rest of the trash that dare call themselves newspapers. Libshit newspapers are nothing more than newspulp fiction designed by adle-brained graduates of the brain-dead leftist university systems.

O’Fuck will find a way to bail them out…or his boot-licks in Congress will.

Just don’t buy the paper anymore. If enough people do that, the Slime and all the other printed bags of wet shit, will die a nice fast death. And good riddence when they’re gone.
Less garbage in our landfills. Now that’s change that might even make the Goracle happy. Yeah right.
