Obama Promises To Not Return The Fairness Doctrine
President Obama opposes any move to bring back the so-called Fairness Doctrine, a spokesman told FOXNews.com Wednesday.
The statement is the first definitive stance the administration has taken since an aide told an industry publication last summer that Obama opposes the doctrine — a long-abolished policy that would require broadcasters to provide opposing viewpoints on controversial issues.
“As the president stated during the campaign, he does not believe the Fairness Doctrine should be reinstated,” White House spokesman Ben LaBolt told FOXNews.com.
That was after both senior adviser David Axelrod and White House press secretary Robert Gibbs left open the door on whether Obama would support reinstating the doctrine.
“I’m going to leave that issue to Julius Genachowski, our new head of the FCC … and the president to discuss. So I don’t have an answer for you now,” Axelrod told FOX News Sunday over the weekend when asked about the president’s position.
The debate over the so-called Fairness Doctrine has heated up in recent days as prominent Democratic senators have called for the policies to be reinstated. Conservative talk show hosts, who see the doctrine as an attempt to impose liberal viewpoints on their shows, largely oppose any move to bring it back.
Fueling discussion, a report in the American Spectator this week said aides to Democratic Rep. Henry Waxman, Calif., met last week with staff for the Federal Communications Commission to discuss ways to enact Fairness Doctrine policies. The report said Waxman was also interested in applying those standards to the Internet, which drew ridicule from supporters and opponents of the doctrine.
Both the FCC and Waxman’s office denied the report.
The Fairness Doctrine was adopted in 1949 and held that broadcasters were obligated to provide opposing points of views on controversial issues of national importance. It was halted under the Reagan administration.

Uh huh. Yeah. Right. I believe him. NOT!
They don’t need it anymore. If they control the Banks, they control advertisers by restricting loans to any corporation advertising on ‘Hate Radio’.
They will find a thousand new ideas to quash speech. The Fairness Doctrine is a quaint old, obsolete, Socialist Tool, ready for the trash bin.
They have brand new and shiny, supercharged Socialist Speech Shredding Tools. Keep your head on a swivel.
Waxman should go get his fuckin nose hairs taken care off.The bastard.
“As the president stated during the campaign, he does not believe the Fairness Doctrine should be reinstated,â€
…and that should mean what to me today, now that he is in office?
He’ll just rename it and then institute it……..problem solved.
Of course he’s against the fairness doctrine.
This rank street hustler from Chicago’s southside is to savvy to advocate something as incendiary as the socalled “Fairness Doctrine”; to advocate FDR’s endeavor at censorship would act as a lightning rod to those who stand against NObama’s larger scheme to wreak bolshevism on America.
He’ll take a much more benign approach so the sleeping masses won’t notice what he’s doing.
Just like his ‘porkulus’ is wrapped in stimulus rhetoric so as to mask funding Acorn and overturning welfare reform, NObama will wrap his ‘censorship doctrine’ in much more palatable terms e.g. ‘local contant equality’ so his useful idiots in the mendacious media will do the selling for him to the unwitting public.
But no matter what it’s labeled, it will be designed to censor and punish free speech. These leftists are deathly afraid of engaging in a battle of ideas and they cannot stand to have anyone question what they are doing to America.
Remember ALL of BO’s statements come with an expiration date!
Bambi Lies
Bambi had better check with Comrades Pelosibitch and Reidvedev before committing The State to any non-Socialist position.
im always suspicious of this guy. but ill just hope he doesnt and if they decide to we’ll give them a fight.
He is against the fairness doctrine just like he was going to set up shop[ as teh most transparent government in history, and then he and the rest of the domocrat socialists rammed the stimulus bill through with a total of 10 hours allowed to read it.
Being against the fairness doctrine is like saying all bills will be open for discussion for 48 hours, or five days, before they are voted on or before he will sign them, and that he wil llisten to the people on all things, and signed the bill when all polls showed the American people were against the bill by over a 2 to 1 average.
We are all so fucked. My wife and I are ratcheting back spending on everything we can, buying ammunition with cash so CC receipts cannot be traced by teh brownshirts in DC(not that we have any weapons for any socialist traitors reading this) and we are looking at buying gold and silver, as teh US dollar will soon be worth squat, and we are going to be headed for a precious metals/stones currency.
It’s a ploy, he’ll endorse it in about 6 months.
