Putin Warns The US Against Socialism
Russian Prime Minister Vladamir Putin has said the US should take a lesson from the pages of Russian history and not exercise “excessive intervention in economic activity and blind faith in the state’s omnipotenceâ€.
“In the 20th century, the Soviet Union made the state’s role absolute,†Putin said during a speech at the opening ceremony of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “In the long run, this made the Soviet economy totally uncompetitive. This lesson cost us dearly. I am sure nobody wants to see it repeated.â€
Sounding more like Barry Goldwater than the former head of the KGB, Putin said, “Nor should we turn a blind eye to the fact that the spirit of free enterprise, including the principle of personal responsibility of businesspeople, investors, and shareholders for their decisions, is being eroded in the last few months. There is no reason to believe that we can achieve better results by shifting responsibility onto the state.â€
Putin also cautioned the US against using military Keynesianism to lift its economy out of recession, saying, “in the longer run, militarization won’t solve the problem but will rather quell it temporarily. What it will do is squeeze huge financial and other resources from the economy instead of finding better and wiser uses for them.†Putin’s comments come in sharp contrast to Russia’s own military buildup and expansion.
Putin also echoed the words of conservative maverick Ron Paul when he said, “we must assess the real situation and write off all hopeless debts and ‘bad’ assets. True, this will be an extremely painful and unpleasant process. Far from everyone can accept such measures, fearing for their capitalization, bonuses, or reputation. However, we would ‘conserve’ and prolong the crisis, unless we clean up our balance sheets.â€
“The time for enlightenment has come. We must calmly, and without gloating, assess the root causes of this situation and try to peek into the future.â€

Perhaps Mr. Putin really does have a good sense of the economic disaster that government intervention will cause. Russia might feel the worst of a global economic meltdown, and a severely weakened Russia can only hold off resource-hungry China for so long.

I will be posting this several times throughout this site. I heard it this morning on the Laura Ingraham show who was on vacation with Jane Macy filling in. Macy used to be a Liberal and she mentioned that the ONE thing that liberals MUST have in order to rise to power (â€they COUNT on it) is for conservatives to retreat or give way, i.e. accommodate. She then played this sound bite from a Reagan speech. I am not ashamed to admit, but I had to pull over on the Interstate because I was openly weeping. I was 10 years old when Reagan was first inaugurated, I love him and miss him terribly. The speech is a warning, prophecy, message of hope and ultimately a directive for conservatives everywhere. In the mid to long term, Russia is far more worried about China than anyone else. Russia has the natural resources that China will need, and in or after a prolonged global downturn Russia may not have the strength, or allies (E. Europe is now teetering), to prevent China from just taking them.
Russia’s strength and relevance depends largely on energy exports, or it would if prices weren’t in the tank (it’s also worth remembering that Europe may need Russia more so when the economy is good, and Russia will need some allies). Putin well knows that comfortably high energy prices require a stable global economy, and the biggest threat to that are unfortunately Obama and the Dems, now the official voice of the U.S.
How ironic that since no on else is using them, Putin is now free to use Republican talking points to spank the U.S. From now on, on the world stage anyway where Republicans are now largely irrelevant, U.S. conservatives will be seen to be using Putin’s talking points. Yes, the world is on its head!

Putin’s ambitions and background certainly make him no ‘friend’ of ours. But if anything positive can be said about an old KGB ‘company’ guy like him; it would have to be that he thoroughly understands exactly what made America such a formidable foe. He understands this far better then many, long serving, American politicians (liberal-progressives and RINOs) could ever comprehend.
For Tsar Vladimir, stating the obvious now is absolutely no problem for him. It may even, over the long-term, increase his clout in old Europe. For he also understands just exactly how far down the road to chaos our Demo-commie government is planning to take us (all the frigging way, it would seem).

In other words Russia is shrinking it’s government and spending; rather than taxing the people and expanding government. Whis is exactly what the US is doing… You know for some reason.. If majority of Americans think like her I’d get out of the country fast. These kinds of thinking harbor a one-party political system that (hopefully not) would turn to dictatorship. He’s already campaigning for the his next term as we know it. Saying that it will take more than four years to fix the problem. He’ll have deficit after after deficit in his whole term. I wouldn’t want to be treasury sec. under his term. It would be a massive headache for four years and more if he had his way.
