FOX:

Obama is pushing for the massive spending plan to jump-start the economy, which otherwise, he says, could be headed for “catastrophe.”

Senators have reached a tentative deal on a version of President Obama’s economic stimulus plan, including about $805 billion in spending and tax cuts, that will win enough Republican votes to move forward.

Sen. Ken Conrad, D-N.D., told FOX News that “there are at least three” Republicans willing to sign onto the bill, giving Democrats the 60 votes needed to advance the bill to a final vote.

Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said he doubts a vote will take place Friday night, suggesting the Senate will act sometime next week. But Democrats were more confident that a vote was imminent as Majority Leader Harry Reid reconvened the session on the Senate floor.

As part of the deal, spending in the bill was reduced while tax cuts were increased.

Obama is pushing for the massive spending plan to jump-start the economy, which otherwise, he says, could be headed for “catastrophe.”

The president has taken an increasingly public approach to advocating the bill’s passage, sitting for TV interviews early this week and planning trips to Indian and Florida next week to promote the measure. Polls suggest taxpayers are skeptical about the effectiveness of the plan.

The two cities Obama will visit next week have struggled amid the crumbling economy. Elkhart, Ind., has seen its unemployment jump to 15.3 percent from 4.7 percent in the past year and unemployment in Fort Myers, Fla., has climbed to 10 percent.

The House passed a economic stimulus package of a little more than $800 billion last month with Republicans unified against the measure. In Senate deliberations, the price tag had risen higher than $900 billion, prompting Senate Republicans to complain that it contained too much spending and not enough tax relief.

Even Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California voiced opposition to the bill on Friday, saying it wouldn’t do enough to stimulate the economy. But after news broke Friday night that a deal had been reached, Feinstein said, “This is as good a compromise as we are going to get.”

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday’s report showing the economy lost nearly 600,000 jobs in January “is the equivalent of losing every job in the state of Maine,” possibly a direct appeal by Gibbs that state’s two senators. And he noted: “In the past two months, the economy lost 1.2 million jobs. That’s basically losing every job in Pittsburgh or in Cleveland,” possibly appealing to the Republican senators from Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Obama’s maximus porkulus spending spree is nothing more than stimulus for bigger govt. It benefits bureaucrats and their constituents only. It fails to help the private enterprise in the slightest and these earmarks will not create jobs nor secure a better future for the citizens of this nation.

It is unbound decadence that will weaken us greatly and lead us all into deeper malaise and misery. It can only profit our enemies.

Lucifer’s servants are exposed, they are the foe within prepare for much worse.

The jackals are at the gates slobbering and this administration’s hubris is palpable, they smell weakness - they sense collapse and opportunity.

A side note: I was listening to Chris Plante on the radio this AM, and a black dude called in to say that he, his family and some of his friends are now questioning the wisdom of their vote for Obambi. He himself said that he’s at a “crossroads”. Well now, looks like the Obomination house of cards is beginning to fall in on itself.

A man is known by the company he keeps, Not by his words but by his deeds. It is a principal that this guy and his family and friends are learning the hard way.

Hold on now, there are late reports that Landrieu (D-LA) is waffling. The “American First” amendment to it would harm the Port of New Orleans which does a ton of business in import steel headed up the Mississippi, after all of the grain has been offloaded and headed overseas.

  13. Sully

This bullshit is gonna pass - a ‘tentative agreement’ has been reached at $780 billion - and an amendmemt prohibiting money going to Bambi’s brownshirt ACORN went down in flames along party lines.

  14. dwall

4 billion for acorn and la raza,, wtf?

Any republican in the senate or house that votes for this should be targeted for opposition the next election in 2010 or whenever they run in the Senate.

  16. I wonder if there is an excessive amount of pessimism about the economy and the job loss. Without a doubt the economy is in a very tenuous position but isn’t now the time to believe in our inherent ability to overcome, survive, and thrive?

Instead of wasting too much time figuring out where blame lies (analysis of past mistakes is necessary to a degree) lets spend time developing solutions for ourselves and perhaps more help the people around us.

Now is a time to tighten our belts and push forward believing in our inherent ability to succeed.
