Sales of “Atlas Shrugged†Soar in the Face of Economic Crisis
Washington, D.C., February 23, 2009–Sales of Ayn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged†have almost tripled over the first seven weeks of this year compared with sales for the same period in 2008. This continues a strong trend after bookstore sales reached an all-time annual high in 2008 of about 200,000 copies sold.
“Americans are flocking to buy and read ‘Atlas Shrugged’ because there are uncanny similarities between the plot-line of the book and the events of our day†said Yaron Brook, Executive Director at the Ayn Rand Center for Individual Rights. “Americans are rightfully concerned about the economic crisis and government’s increasing intervention and attempts to control the economy. Ayn Rand understood and identified the deeper causes of the crisis we’re facing, and she offered, in ‘Atlas Shrugged,’ a principled and practical solution consistent with American values.”

Uncanny is an understatement. To anyone who has read the fabulous support of capitalism, it is almost identical. And yes this kind of stuff was going on from FDR on, and especially advanced during Eisenhower who was no conservative, general yes, but conservative no.

my cousin brought up a good point today… the producers left years ago when it became more profitable to create, learn, and build overseas. Where the gov’t was not in the way. We are merely seeing the results of the actions taken years ago… I have to say i agree with him.

Just finished it! The best book I have ever read. Am going to pass it on to my wife and daughter to read…the similarities with what is happening today is scaaaaary!

I’m just finishing up ‘Once a marine” then right on to this one.
I am around page 460, and I have to admit, it is unlike any book I have ever read.
The parallels between this book and today are, as Mr. Brook stated, are uncanny. And this book was written in 1957.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a great read.
I just got Fountainhead and the 5ooo Year Leap to start reading.

Prime-movers unite! The second-handers out number us but they’re lazy and unmotivated. Ayn Rand was Alan Greenspan’s mentor and she knew communism first hand living in the Soviet Union. Great book but I don’t suppose it’ll be in Oprah’s book club any time soon.

atlas shrugged is on it way to becomeing a movie. if this happens and hollywood doesn’t screw it up that will be a great sign of dare i say it real hope and change for the individual. i am JOHN GALT
