Washington, Feb 6 - House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement regarding reports that control of the U.S. Census Bureau will be stripped from the Department of Commerce and placed with the White House staff:
“I am disturbed by reports that control of the traditionally nonpartisan Census Bureau is being stripped from the Commerce Department and placed with the White House staff. This action appears to be motivated by politics, rather than the interests of our country, and the burden will be on the new administration to prove otherwise during Senator Gregg’s confirmation hearings. The United States Census should remain independent of politics; it should not be directed by political operatives working out of the White House.â€

Politicians skew the unbias census anyway… My favorite is the 47 million uninsured americans number they always tout when National Healthcare is the issue. the census asks do you have health insurance, those individuals earning between 35,000 and 120,000 between the ages of 18 and 35 account for 21 million people who can afford insurance but don’t think they need it. Now the number is 26 million. we have 15 million illegals in the country, not one of them pays health insurance and the more accurate number is 11 million needy people who are uneducated, don’t work and live in poverty…these people need help. But it sounds much more dire if 47 million americans need health insurance rather that the reality of 11 million.
Controlling census reports allows the D cats to increase the numbers at will to influence public perception, kinda like what obamadenajad is doing with the porkulus bill, its all about chicken little with these drips. But I digress, screw the report and who controls it is literally used only for propaganda anyway by both sides. Boehner is just politicking while the beast is weak, its a tracer bullet aimed at the next move team idiot makes.

Well Sully, as far as I know redistricting is done by state and local officials not federal, its why California’s house will always be a democrats heaven. Besides voluntary forms are not meant for party affiliation, they do not ask you in the census if you are republican or democrat and if it did how accurate would you expect it to be? This is more of the change Obama was talking about; using this as an opportunity to politicize the Census Department. Now they can re-drawing voting districts and give large cities and Blue states greater representation!

The decennial Census is used to redraw district lines for elected seats in Congress and state legislatures, and is always a major issue for minority advocates. The National Association of Latino Elected Officials released a statement on Tuesday, shortly after Obama announced Gregg’s nomination, questioning Gregg’s willingness to produce the most accurate count of the nation’s population.

The congressional district fudging is not a likely outcome since those numbers are already pretty well tracked from current census projections.
The issue is more about individual city numbers so that any law based on the size will be able to slip around how much of the pie each of the favored cities pick up.

If you recall, in both a post of mine and when I was on air with Pat, et. al. a couple months ago on JKH, I warned about exactly this sort of tactic: the co-opting of information and power that will adher to the levels of state control for the purpose of aggrandizement of national programs.
Some of my friends and colleagues who voted for Obama (and some who did not) assured me he would be a centrist, govern responsibly, and that I was overreacting. I believe in just two+ short weeks we have seen how radical this man is and how hard left he is already trending.

Figures don’t lie, but liars figure. He who controls the census controls the House of Representatives. I used to work for the Republican side of the subcommitte on the census. They can easily do minor variations on the formulas used to calculate population in urban areas, with those formulas every bit as statistically valid as the next formula. If you can take 3 seats from a rural area and give them to a large city, you have prob just done away with 3 Rep seats and created 3 Dem seats.

In watching coverage of voter registration of people in the US, I found it rather “Spooky” if you will that not one journalist commented on the fact that Obama supporters were moving to red states because they felt the particular state needed more representation of Democrats. More votes for Obama. Then after the election, moving back to where they came from.
