When retired General Erik K. Shinseki was announced as the new head of the Department of Veterans Affairs, I applauded the President’s choice. That in itself is very unusual for me.
I didn’t do that because Gen. Shinseki and I have always agreed, we have not; but I know Gen. Shinseki personally and have always thought of him as a thoughtful, brilliant officer that put the affairs of soldiers at the top of his priorities. Especially me.
When then MG Shinseki first took command of 1st Cavalry Division I was a brand new Captain (and light fighter struggling in a heavy Armor Division). Shinseki was a very welcomed arrival in the division because nothing could be worse than the previous commander, MG Wes Clark.
The difference was day and night. Within weeks morale had swung 180 degrees!
Then something amazing happened to me. I was offered command of an Infantry company. The problem was I had not yet attended the required Infantry Officer Advance Course at Fort Benning and Infantry Branch said NO WAY.
Shinseki got involved and after a long discussing with me and my commander, he called whoever division commanders call and I took command within two weeks. He pulled the same rabbit out of his hat 16 months later and ultimately I did go to the advance course but I had 30 months of company command under my belt when I arrived.
Years later I found myself in the Pentagon when General Shinseki showed up as the new Army Chief of Staff. I was very happy for him and told everyone who would listen that he was a soldier’s General.
Then came his directive that all soldiers would be issued a black beret!
As a former member of the 75th Ranger Regiment along with Jonn, I vehemently disagreed with his decision and told him so.
But my faith in him as a soldier and officer of impeccable integrity made me accept the order. I am an old soldier and when a General gives an order that is not illegal, unethical or immoral, I salute and move out whether I personally like it or not.
This new approach to screwing veterans however is beyond my parameters. Based on implied contract rules of law where there is not a veteran alive today that ever thought he would be liable for his own care after a combat related injury; I am not at all certain that this change is remotely LAWFUL.
Even if some pony-tailed Chicago lawyer finds a loophole to make this legal, no one with an IQ above that of a pencil sharpener can argue that it is ETHICAL.
But most important is the MORAL part. Anyone who thinks this idea is remotely moral is either retarded or just plain un-American. Where is the morality in a country sending a person to war and then refusing to pay for his care after being maimed in the war?
This is beyond immoral, it is un-American! And I will debate this issue with any dumbass veteran who voted for this amateur. If you’re not a veteran don’t contact me. If you want to defend this as a veteran (and you know we will check), I will do so in any forum you like as often as you like and I will ask nor offer quarter.
To all you trolls out there, consider this before taking my challenge:
President Obama wants to charge combat wounded veterans for care to save $500 million while simultaneously GRANTING $900 million to terrorist in Palestine to recover from the beat down that they sorely deserved.

To General Shinseki I say RESIGN NOW. This is the only possible way to preserve your integrity as a soldier’s soldier. To do anything less is to slap the face of every wounded warrior and leave yourself as nothing more than a liar and pathetic political hack.
I don’t call for you resignation because of any malfeasance that you did but as a principled position against this atrocity and solidarity with the soldiers that you once commanded.

I actually had a discussion about this. What it came down to was that a lot of people don’t join the military for ideological reasons or to serve their country, but rather as a way to go to college or get a job in a bad economy. This is true, but does that mean that because some people didn’t volunteer just to serve their country that they should be forced to pay for their injuries when injured in combat.
Well it wouldn’t be an issue if Bushitler hadn’t forced our guys and gals to fight Barry’s Muzzie Freedom Fighters.

If Obama can put a $787 billion stimulus package through I think he can avoid going down this path to doom for himself. I guarantee if he starts doing things like this it will prove to be the end of him. He is already wearing out his welcome very fast. You think Bush was bad give this guy some time.

I get it. I am just a little bit reactionary about this particular piece of news today. Been storming around the internet today writing about it. I hope we take issues with the military and veterans serious. Just really concerned and want to make sure we don’t let Barry and his Cronies slide on their socialist agenda.
Shinseki needs to resign immediately.
One major item missing in the article is Obama’s proposed “free” universal healthcare for all . . . especially the deadbeat welfare types, illegal aliens, and nearly everyone else . . . except now, of course, disabled vets! Bovine Scotology (look it up)!! Concur ALL with the author with the addition that the resignation “should” be very loud and vocal (assuming the MSM will cover it). LOL
Too often I have seen officers become more and more insulated from the needs of the soldiers and sailors they command as they move up in rank. It seems that many lose their common sense as soon as they make O-4. On the other hand I have worked with some damn fine senior officers as well. It just seems like for every good one there are 2-3 complete idiots.

One thing Obama does not want to do is piss off the Military and Veterans who sign a dotted line that essentially says you may lose your life defending this country. I am not really sure if Shinseki has lost his mind or what. Does he think this is going to put smiles on the faces of the Military and Veterans who are missing limbs and are now in wheel chairs struggling in an economic crisis. Unbelievable timing this administration has with their proposals for nonsense. If this goes through I feel this will be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
I agree Scott, I had a Captain in Vietnam (C 4/23 Inf 25th ID) who I would have followed to hell if he’d asked. During my 7 years in the Army, there was not one officer who I could say the same about.

Im thinking if a race war is what the scotus is afraid of, well it would be far less damage than Obongo would do.
Has anyone heard of a diversionary attack? Why is this a**hole doing all of this stupid stuff? (gun control, spending/stimulus packages, screwing hurt vets, etc…) So that we are all running around in circles fighting for our own favorite cause while Barry slams it up our collective backsides.
And what is the main thrust? I’m not sure just yet, but I can tell you one thing. All of this crap he’s been pulling lately are little steps toward his main objective.
We could debate until the end of time about what his ultimate goal is. But, why? We already know this jerk is evil and he must be opposed at EVERY step. We need to stop ALL of this crap.

Amen, this is going to be a really long four years. I have but one question. Why is it that the whole world seems to know this Obama guy is a radical Muslim except for us? I truly believe that both he and his wife hate this country and all that it ever stood for, currently stands for and strives to be. I as a partially disabled vet with children who are also disabled vets are both embarrassed and disgusted by what we see happening to our country and our military. We are in deep trouble and my greatest fear is just how much damage is his kind of thinking and actions going to do to this country during his term and the terms of those who think like him.
