Tunisian praying pilot jailed for 10 years

A PILOT who prayed instead of taking emergency measures before crash-landing his plane has been sentenced to 10 years in jail.

The Tunisian pilot received his sentence in an Italian court, along with his co-pilot, for the crash which killed 16 people.

The 2005 crash at sea off Sicily left survivors swimming for their lives, some clinging to a piece of the fuselage that remained floating after the ATR turbo-prop aircraft splintered upon impact.

A fuel-gauge malfunction was partly to blame but prosecutors also said the pilot succumbed to panic, praying out loud instead of following emergency procedures and then opting to crash-land the plane instead trying to reach a nearby airport.

Another five employees of Tuninter, a subsidiary of Tunisair, were sentenced to between eight and nine years in jail by the court.

The seven accused, who were not in court, will not spend time in jail until the appeals process has been exhausted.

So evidently Saturday at 8:30pm PST your local time is supposed to be Earth Hour (Google It). Everyone is supposed to turn their lights off and sit in the dark. While this might be enjoyable if I had someone of the female persuasion to celebrate with. But since I don’t, I am going to celebrate in the best way I can.

I plan to turn every frickin light I own on. I will turn on my stereo, computer, TV, etc etc etc. Hell, I may even go start my big ole gas guzzling high performance American V-8 and let it sit and idle with the A/C going just for giggles.

I encourage all other red blooded Americans to take part in my celebration of Earth Hour. After all with the global cooling that is going on, we need all the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere we can get to help counter the oncoming ice age.

Maybe I can find someone of the female persuasion to help me celebrate with the lights on instead.

Jenny – Your logic is unimpeachable and is the only flaw in my plan. When I first heard about this whole dumb idea, I was telling my Dad I keep my lights off not to stop global warming, but to stop wallet lightening.

Yesterday I linked to an ad hominid attack masquerading as a review of the film “Brothers at War” in my local newspaper.

Well, today the theater showing the film placed a large ad for the film in the most read section of the paper…the sports section.

At the top of the ad was a blurb review by Roger Ebert that read, “***(3 stars)POWERFUL AND HONEST, I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS…’BROTHERS AT WAR’ IS NOT A WAR FILM. IT’S A LIFE FILM.”

A Web site called EarthHour.org, apparently unconcerned about the carbon footprint of majuscules, urges global warmists to “VOTE EARTH BY SWITCHING OFF YOUR LIGHTS FOR ONE HOUR” starting at 8:30 p.m. tomorrow. We were tempted to make fun of this, as many people in the site’s comment section have done, but then we remembered what President Obama said about cynics who fail to understand that the ground has shifted beneath them. So instead of being consumed by the stale political argument that this protest is silly, we’re going to do something positive: organize a counterprotest.

Reader, if you are against global-warming hysteria, high taxes, socialized medicine and a weak foreign policy, Sunday is your day. Show how you feel about the issues by turning on your lights in the evening and leaving them on until you go to bed. If you go out for a drive after dark, make sure you turn your headlights on too.

Granted, the EarthHour people have a head start on us. They started planning this months ago, whereas we’re giving you all of 48 hours notice. Yet we think the outlook is bright for this effort. Tell your friends, tell them to tell their friends, and so on, and we’ll bet millions of people across the country will turn their lights on Sunday night.

If no one will listen to the silent majority, let’s at least make sure they see us.
