TEHRAN – Iran has test-fired a new air-to-surface missile, Iranian media reported on Sunday, in the Islamic Republic’s latest display of its military capability.

The missile test was carried out despite the offer by the administration of new U.S. President Barack Obama to engage Iran in direct talks if it “unclenches its fist”.

Iran’s Fars News Agency said the domestically produced missile had a range of 110 km and was designed for use by military aircraft against naval targets.

“Now these jet fighters have acquired a new capability in confronting threats,” the semi-official news agency said. Iran’s Press TV initially said a long-range missile had been tested, but later also used Fars’ way of describing it.

Iran often stages war games or tests weapons to show its determination to counter any attack by foes such as Israel and the United States.

Israel and Washington accuse Tehran of trying to develop nuclear bombs. Iran says its nuclear programme is a peaceful drive to generate electricity so that the world’s fourth-largest oil producer can export more of its gas and crude.

Israel, believed to be the only nuclear-armed Middle East state, has said Iran’s nuclear plans threaten its existence and has not ruled out military action if diplomacy fails to end the dispute.

Iran has said it would respond to any attack by targeting U.S. interests and Israel, as well as closing the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway between the Gulf and the Sea of Oman through which about 40 percent of the world’s traded oil is shipped.

One Western defence analyst said he believed the missile test was a signal by Iran that “we can severely disrupt traffic” in the Gulf if attacked.

“That’s what would be the frightening thing for the West and the Middle East,” Andrew Brookes of the International Institute for Strategic Studies think-tank in London said by phone.

The U.S. State Department declined to comment on the Iranian press reports.

Military experts say Iranian missiles often draw on technology from China, North Korea or other countries.

“They’ve taken Chinese missile technology and converted and developed it to take out ships,” said Brookes. “It is not a new development, it has been going on for some years.”

The air-to-surface missile’s range of 110 km would be far less than that of the surface-to-surface Shahab missile, which Iranian officials say can travel about 2,000 km, enabling it to reach Israel and U.S. bases in the Gulf.

A top Iranian military commander last week said that Iranian missiles could now reach Israeli nuclear sites. Iran has often said it has missiles able to reach the Jewish state but had not previously mentioned such specific targets.

HAs anyone ever noticed how comically close Ahmajenidad’s eyes are to one another? When will Barry realize that these militant pricks don’t want to chat?

Prediction (AKA talking out of my a**):
    Appeasement, part 77321
Now that Iran has almost completed its objective – The Bomb, the world will soon hear the demand “Give us Jerusalem or else”.
Mr. O. and his lapdog Mrs Clinton will bend over faster than you can say “genocide”.

The Israelis don’t give a rat’s ass about Obot or The Cunt. They already know Barak Hussein al-Muhammed is going to throw them under the bus. If they decide a strike on Iran is worth the consequences before they attain full nuclear capability, they will strike. I only hope they also target the known HQ of the mullahs as well as the nuke facilities. That, friends, will be the start of the next World War. The IDF will have to make a move before the SA-3 Russian system is in place; the window is only 1-2 mos….

    Iran Nuclear Crisis :gun:

The economic downturn may have given the Obama White House its first major crisis, but the fast-looming Iran nuclear crisis is about to give him his second.

It was some of the Administration’s highest ranking officials, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Adm.

Mike Mullen and the Secretary of Defense Robert Gates that put the exclamation marks on the issue on March 1.

Mullen when asked on CNN whether Iran “might now have enough fissile material to make a bomb” he answered: “We think they do, quite frankly.” He went on to add,

“Iran having a nuclear weapon, I believe, for a long time, is a very, very bad outcome for the region and for the world.”

Secretary Robert Gates, speaking on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” while acknowledging the Iranian problem said of Iran, “They’re not close to a stockpile, they’re not close to a weapon at this point and so there is some time.”

What he was not pressed about is the duration of this time. It may be running out fast.

Even before his inauguration on January 20, President Obama, trying to show his differentiation from single-minded, “cowboy” George W. Bush, has been expansive on the philosophy of new international co-operation, multi-lateral working with previously considered rogue countries, even promising new talks without pre-conditions with Iran.

But, as regards the latter, Obama has been conspicuously short on specifics. Meanwhile, in what can only described as a suicide wish and one that can only be possible in that part of the world, Teheran continues to flaunt the fact it is closing fast on its nuclear goals, whatever they may be.

Isreal is being hung out to dry by the world. We are its greatest ally and we are sitting back and watching it all go down. They are surrounded by people who want to wipe them off the face of the earth. Once Iran has nuclear capabilities or if it already does they are going to plunge us into a another world war. It’s only a matter of time. Isreal needs to act and defend it self, just like it did with hamas.
