His name recognition and media savvy would have given them an excellent spokesman that would have retained from his past roles an illusion of apolitical trustworthiness in the eyes of the masses. Gupta did not stab them and their schemes in the back, but his pulling his name is more than the toe stub of the others. A knee to the nuts of socialized medicine in America, maybe. His desertion will not stop it, but at least it will not go as easy and fast with the children ask no questions except "can we have our lollipop now Dr. Gupta".
