    This is another Bush Bash … JSOC is legit.

    First of all JSOC has been around a while … starting in 1980 following the failure of the Iranian Hostage Rescue. See the following link:

    Secondly, The “assassination squad” allegation is a dramatization (remember this guy is trying to sell books) of the Special Mission Units that JSOC are alleged to conduct. See link at http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/agency/dod/jsoc.htm

    The reference to the VP overseeing this group is only partially true and probably relates to powers assigned to the VP for the war on drugs under the Reagan administration.

    That said, JSOC is a bit like Janus … a public face and a private face. It’s best for all concerned (and the security of our nation) that the private face remain private.

    Yet he is so inept that after all the subterfuge to assemble that unit they became inept and could not successfully carry out any substantial mission.
    Daniel Ortega is still alive and ran for office this past year. Mohammar Qadafi is still alive. Yasser Arafat died of AIDS recently and the Bashir family still runs Syria. Those were the players at the time Hersh is talking about. His butt boy mouthpiece Olby repeats any slime frothing from Hersh mouth.
