Parents Angered By “Obama Rap Song” Homework Assignment

‘Obama rap’ draws complaint from parent
By Julie Hubbard
When Chase Drew’s second-grade son came home from Alexander II Magnet School with a permission slip asking the child to memorize an “Obama rap†for a Black History Month program, Drew got upset when he read the lyrics.
One verse asked that troops be brought home from Iraq. Another line sought lobbying for health care.
“If it was we’re celebrating a new president, fine,†Drew said of the lyrics. “They’re putting politics into it.â€
He didn’t allow his son to participate in the rap during a Feb. 25 assembly at the magnet school.
Since President Obama, the nation’s first black president, was sworn into office Jan. 20, the Bibb County school system has received a few complaints that politics has unduly crept into school activities.
Some Bibb County schools, especially high-minority ones, marked the historic milestone with celebrations, essay contests and other tributes to Obama during their Black History Month programs.
School officials don’t see anything wrong with it.
“This is Black History Month and we teach the political process. These were all activities to school instruction,†Superintendent Sharon Patterson said last week, responding to the few complaints.
Objections first trickled in to the school system days before the inauguration, when some schools announced that they would allow students to watch the swearing-in ceremony live.
“We have some parents who do not want their child/children to view the oath of office and inaugural address as they do not feel it is an educational activity,†said a central office e-mail sent to principals.
If John McCain had been elected, one principal said, no one would have objected.

“Why should we not want to teach history as it’s being made?†said Baheejah Hasan, Ingram-Pye Elementary School principal. A black president in this country has “never happened before, so it’s a good topic to talk about.â€
Her elementary students marched down to a nearby church on Inauguration Day to celebrate. The school has no auditorium, and students and teachers used the church facility, which had more space.
The march, in which students carried signs and were escorted by police and firefighters, led to at least one protest letter to the editor in The Telegraph. It also fueled a handful of residents to speak out at a February school board meeting, contending high security costs.
Hasan and Patterson say there was no costly charge. If any lessons were too extreme or costly, “I’d take action,†Patterson said.
The latest complaint involved Alex II’s black history program.
At the assembly, some of the magnet school’s second-grade class mimicked a rap they saw students from the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta perform Jan. 20 in Washington, D.C.
One verse goes: “Dear Obama hear us sing, we’re ready for the change that you will bring, going to shine the light for the world to see, to spread peace, hope and democracy. The time is now bring our troops home. Iraq can stand strong on their own. And fight for health care for the young, so that coverage is available for everyone.â€
Drew, who says he didn’t vote for Obama, said his son read the verse, then came home asking what war is and why the country was at war?
“He’s the first minority president and that’s a good step for America, and we need to celebrate that part of it,†Drew said. “Kids don’t need to celebrate what (Obama’s) promised or not promised, not the politics.â€
Alex II principal Linda Bivins said no other parents objected to the rap, and school employees didn’t think it was inappropriate.
“Politics is a part of our business. We teach government,†Bivins said. “I don’t let teachers wear Obama shirts. That’s politicking.â€
If there was an outcry from parents that school officials were teaching something that adversely affected students, “we would take another look at it,†Bivins said.

Me: I gotta tell you a small story from a couple weeks ago.
My 3 yr old Grand(monster)son goes to the preschool my sister is an aid at.
Well, he was here one day a couple weeks ago and I was working online … He spotted the picture of Obama on the screen and began rattling off “That’s “Brak” Obumma … he’s the president of the ewwnited stay …” and a mouthful of other wonderful Obama claptrap.
Well, my daughter’s jaw hit the floor … she looked at him and demanded where he’d heard all that.
Mick said, “Miss Cl***** at my schooool …”
Sara got red in the face and said, “Mom, are they indoctrinating him in fucking nursery school???”
I shrugged and gave her that, “Why not” smirk. Then I pulled Mick over to the computer and asked him, “Who’s that?”
“Brak Obumma.”
I then told him, “Barack Obama is a Commie … and he wants to take your Mommy and Daddy’s money and give it to people who don’t want to work.” Only took two run-throughs and the kid has it down solid. He could be a child star in Hollywood.
Anyhow, the next morning I get a call. It’s my sister. “Hey, did you tell Mickey that Obama’s a Communist? And he wants to take all his Mom and Dad’s money?”
I said, “No, I said Obama’s a Commie … Communist is too hard for him to pronounce.”
The phone got dead silent … she then mumbled, “He just walked up to Ms Cl***** and said, ‘I have a secret to tell you. Brak Ubumma’s a Commie’ …”
I then said, “Yeah, Dor, your point?”
“Umm … Well, I dunno … I mean, you should have seen the look on her face. She got a bit huffy …”
I then said this:
“Well, I have a hell of a lot more empirical evidence to back up my claim than she does to dispute it.
2. We STILL have the First Amendment right to free speech, and I will say whatever I want to my Grandson, wherever I want … most especially in my own home. And by that my Grandson will repeat whatever I say whenever he wants to … and if Miss Cl***** has a problem with that she can call me, and NOT Sara or Chris (Mick’s parents of course) …”
“Well, he opened a can of worms … Miss Cl***** is ‘black’…” my sister whispered.
I said, “So? I called him a Commie … not some filthy ethnic slang word. I called him out on his ideology and politics … not his race. If I’d taught Mick to say ‘Bush is Hitler or a Nazi’ and he told his teacher that a couple months ago I bet you my house we wouldn’t be having this phone conversation …”
“Well, they hung up a picture of Obama after the election …”
“After they took down Bush’s?” I chimed in.
“Umm, no, there wasn’t a picture of Pres. Bush up …” she got quiet and then said, “I get ya.”
“If they are indoctrinating that preschool class and my Grandson,” I told her, “they WILL be dealing with me.”
Dor assured me no indoctrination was going on … Not that she would recognize it.
Poor Sara happened to have a parent-teacher conference a day or two later. I told her if Miss Cl***** brought the topic up she was to tell her to call me and discuss it with me … that she was leaving the political ‘education’ to her mother because she’s more up on the correct information of the subject …
Needless to say, the teacher didn’t bring it up.

“Umm, no, there wasn’t a picture of Pres. Bush up …†she got quiet and then said, “I get ya.â€
“If they are indoctrinating that preschool class and my Grandson,†I told her, “they WILL be dealing with me.â€
Um, pull that child out NOW. And, the man with his son at the Magnet school — it’s hard to believe he pays for that claptrap.
Great story.
“Why should we not want to teach history as it’s being made?†said Baheejah Hasan, .. a black president in this country has “never happened before, so it’s a good topic to talk about.â€
.. realistically speaking, “Why shouldn’t we teach the collapse of the USA as it’s being made?” .. “a born and bred Marxist and radical president intent on totalitarian rule has never happened before..”
Maggot Schools….we have them in the area and they are a complete BUST!

Isn’t brainwashing 3 yr. olds criminal?????????
Great going, drill! I had a few discussions myself with teachers at my daughter’s school in the People’s Republic of Santa Cruz, CA. You really have to keep up on what they are learning cuz so much of it is revisionist BS. I couldn’t believe what my kid was learning - and NOT learning in History class.
I’m so glad she went into the Army before taking any college courses - at least the girl can actually think for herself and is not afraid to speak up when she hears crap.
(Angela Davis just retired from teaching at the university there - UCSC.)
Why does it have to be a rap song? Why not a blues, jazz or gospel song? I mean he is the Messiah after all. You better go get them Al and Jesse, they’re promoting racial stereotypes. What’s next, will the white kids show up in black face? And do blacks not listen to country or rock? I think Jimi Hendrix and Charlie Pride might have something to say about that. Imagine such racism in school during black history month, what is this country coming to? Maybe Holder was right, by golly.
My President is Black, my lambo is blue…. You wanna get pissed off, listen to that new rap song by lil nigga or young nigger or whoever it is
My kids had to learn an Obama rap too - don’t know if it’s the same one. One line is “Now we all bow down to Obama.”
My children are not singing this song anymore. Time to homeschool.

It’s got to be something like corrupting a minor. I think there’s a 2-5 year prison sentence with it.
It’s just wrong the indoctrination of children in schools. Even worse, how young they’re indoctrinating them. Hell it’s human nature. What you learn before 5 makes up your basic humanity. It forms your cultural views. Hell, if you never learn a language before 5 years old, plain and simple, you never will. It’s the parents’ responsibility to raise their children, and to teach them about the world, not the governement’s to brainwashing them into mindless drones when it comes to politics.
