Capitol Hill goes gaga over Brad Pitt

WASHINGTON – First of all, no, Brad Pitt is not short. Yes, he’s handsome enough to stand out in any crowd. And, sorry, Angie wasn’t with him.

From the moment he stepped into the Capitol on Thursday, sunglassed and goateed, Pitt’s star power transformed congressional business-as-usual in a way any lawmaker or new president might envy.

“Nice face. Waaaay too skinny,” one Senate source e-mailed on condition of anonymity after catching sight of the actor between meetings with lawmakers about helping rebuild New Orleans.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was not immune to his charms. Praising Pitt for his work to rebuild New Orleans’ hurricane-ravaged 9th Ward, she even allowed that meeting him affords her “bragging rights to my children and my grandchildren – a real treat for me as well.”

And during a closed meeting earlier, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid confided to Pitt that he was envious that his lieutenant, Majority Whip Dick Durbin, got to meet soccer star Mia Hamm a day earlier, according to one person who was present and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Well, Pitt replied, he’ll bring along co-parent Angelina Jolie next time to help Reid make Durbin jealous, this person said.

Later, a Durbin aide sniffed: “Durbin’s already met Angelina Jolie.”

The Power of Pitt drained entire congressional offices of their female employees and quite a few male aides as well, all of whom could be picked out by the way they suddenly appeared in the Senate’s doorways and halls, nonchalantly cupping cell phones and cameras at their sides and hanging around waiting news crews.

Finally, around 1:30 p.m., Pitt, four aides and assorted security guards climbed out of a darkened SUV at the Capitol’s north gate and strolled across the sun-dappled plaza.

As he approached the building, all nonchalance inside disappeared. Was he coming in the carriage entrance? No! He was coming through the North Door.

And so he did, entering through the famous Brumidi corridor, whose ornate and historic paintings he probably couldn’t see through his sunglasses. Reporters, photographers and giggling staffers shuffled after him, up a flight of stairs and around a corner toward Reid’s office. As Pitt entered the parlor, he took off his shades. An aide closed the door behind him.

Inside with Reid, Pitt made an earnest case for nationalizing his “Make It Right New Orleans” campaign, in partnership with Congress, according to a second knowledgeable aide who spoke on condition that he not be named because the meeting was private.

Afterward, this official said, Reid and Pitt posed for pictures, the senator cracking, “How will people tell us apart?”

Outside the door, grinning Capitol Police officers put up ropes to keep the hordes out of the path Pitt was expected to take toward his next meeting, with Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., in a building across the street.

Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., the Judiciary Committee chairman who has appeared as himself in several “Batman” movies and even had a speaking line in “The Dark Knight,” stumbled across the crowd gathered outside Reid’s door.

Told who was inside, Leahy issued a giddy, “Gosh!” and kept walking.

In the end, Pitt and his entourage slipped out a side door and took an elevator to the basement subway.

I remember hearing an old man in New Orleans say the only thing that worked right during Katrina was when the 82nd came through there. Then things got done and order came.
My Son was there for that too! Did you ever hear the media say that though, no just one smart and grateful old man!

Hey Brad, nice project but are the levies fixed? I heard NOT so there goes some more tax money and when the next hurricane comes, there goes the nice little houses in the Pontchatrain!

I can only hang my head. MEN DIED so that building could be raised. And Brad Pitt, who has sucked, and leeched from this country can walk through its halls as if he were something special and congressmen stop their business of the day to meet with this lowlife. I can only hang my head.

It’s not Brad Pitt’s fault that the morons in Congress goes gaga over him. I respect the fact that he actually got involved in the project down there instead of just writing a check and walking away. In fact during the election he and Jolie were careful to stay non – partisan and actually said some nice things about John McCain. Yeah he’s still a Celebutard but he aint as bad as most of them.

First, I am not that big a fan of Pitt as an actor.

 Bev, you are a great gal and many thanks to the 82nd and others who went to New Orleans. I loved seeing the various units there after the storm. It WAS VERY reassuring, and I could have given a S$%t less whether their guns were pointing up down or straight ahead. Heck I even brought some home cooking to give to them at the checkpoints whenever I went down there afterwards to tend to property there.

However, the levees are much better than before the storm. This is a fact. I have seen this with my own eyes. If only congress had of appropriated the maintenance funds required over a couple of decades previous to the storm the aftermath would have been much better. If the environmentalists had stayed out of the way a better system for protection from the northern side (south shore of Lake Pontchartrain) would have ensured that the city would not have been flooded via a flood control system at the Rigolles, as well as some of St. Bernard Parish.

Now back to Pitt, I have got to respect the man for putting up his own money to finance much of his project. This shows that he is not just all blow and no show. I really think that he is misguided in his efforts since EVEN New Orleans liberals can see the generators, and other goodies in these homes as being sold for illegal substances and maintenance to them going unattended.

Brad Pitt is just another sucker, don’t even know he’s being played.
