US Congressman Sponsors Second Amendment Bill
WASHINGTON—U.S. Congressman Todd Tiahrt (R-Goddard) today co-sponsored the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Bill (H.R. 197). This legislation would protect the rights of licensed firearm permit holders by allowing them to carry firearms across the country without a confusing patchwork system.
“The National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Bill recognizes that those who have a valid state-issued concealed firearms permit should not have to forfeit their safety when traveling,” said Tiahrt. “Not only does this bill protect the rights of concealed firearm permit holders, it also maintains the right of states to issue concealed weapons permits as they desire. As a mobile society, legal firearm permit carriers should be able to travel from state to state and exercise their fundamental right to self defense—this legislation ensures that.”
Specifically, the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Bill would allow any person with a valid concealed firearm carrying permit or license, issued by a state, to carry a concealed firearm in any state, as follows:
In states that issue concealed firearm permits, a state’s laws governing where concealed firearms may be carried would apply within its borders.
In states that do not issue carry permits, a federal “bright-line” standard would permit carrying in places other than police stations; courthouses; public polling places; meetings of state, county, or municipal governing bodies; schools; passenger areas of airports; and certain other locations.
The bill applies to D.C., Puerto Rico and U.S. territories.
It would not create a federal licensing system; it would require the states to recognize each others’ carry permits, just as they recognize drivers’ licenses and carry permits held by armored car guards.

Super IDEA…smoke out the Democrat Gun Grabbers..get them to vote NO…like we already do not know who they are…..
You wont see this on the MSM.
But a good idea.
If this passes say bye bye to the gun control nuts. Although this shouldn’t even be a law. There should really be no necessity for it. Unless of course I have to get a drivers license for every state I have to drive through in order to get to the Outer Banks.
Great idea.. But it will be killed in committee so no democrat has to actually vote on it.
True. If this was still a nation of laws and not men this wouldn’t be an issue. And states wouldn’t have to pass resolutions reaffirming their sovereignty.
happy thing is tictic, you can come to Texas and do your CHL (avg cost of about $200 (includes class and filing)) and take it back with you to NY. We allow non state residents to get CHLs here and a nationwide reciprocity would be music to my ears.
tic tic on point.
I think the existing 2nd Amendment is plain enough, and even though this sounds like a good idea, it may only open the door to more legal mischief. This shouldn’t be necessary, nor even a “permit”, according to the way the 2nd Amendment is actually written. The simple fact is, we the people have allowed “tweaking”, by not slamming the anti-gun crowd down hard years ago. They simply don’t have any respect for the Constitution. The bastards got their foot in the door, and it should of been chopped off! Let me pull out my multi-state flyer, hmmm, now where am I? Can I go to the bathroom in this state with my gun? No wait, it’s got to be unloaded, and dismantled, and locked, and blah blah blah… too late. Your under arrest for taking your gun to a rest stop toilet, on Tuesday, but if you‘d of only waited, it would of been ok on Wednesday’s through Monday, (only after 8:09 pm)!
I don’t need no stinkin’ permit. LOL
Well the big problem will be that I-80, I-90, I-57, I-55, I-74 all go through the state I live in, Illinois and it is controlled by people like Obama and Mayor Daley. It will be hard to cross the county and not go through Illinois. Last week a bill only lost by 5 votes that would have made us put a million dollars liability insurance on every gun we own. It will be a act of God to get them to pass a conceal carry law.
Why do we need a federal statute to affirm the Second Amendment? Don’t answer that. It was a rhetorical question.
My thoughts also.
This shouldn’t even be necessary.
Living on a border to Mass-hole-achusettes…I accidentally can go just one exit down the highway too far and be put in jail do to forgetting I had my weapon w/ me.I usually do go one exit in to Mass. to get to an exit in NH that is not reachable going South…I can see where this bill passage would possibly save me from getting locked up for a simple turning around.
PLEASE PASS!
Ma is retarded when it comes to guns.
How you like the little tax war going on.
Ma has a lot of nerve trying to force NH to collect taxes from Ma consumers in NH stores.
I hope your Gov tells Patrick to F*ck off.
Even if this legislative attempt to make the libs work harder doesn’t go anywhere. It makes them work harder, keeps them busy.
We don’t typically think about doing things that make others suffer inconvenience, it is not in our DNA. Having to fight off a bill like this makes them use some of their institutional energy. Kind of Soros like, don’t you think?
This won’t pass because, “The bill applies to D.C., Puerto Rico and U.S. territories.” Why would a tyrannical Executive and Legislative branch allow you to carry a gun in their front yard? They won’t.
Great, if it happens!
The fact remains, that the Constitution already gives us this right. The Constitution applies to all States.
The Right to carry is number two in the top ten list of Rights. We need to have Congress understand this…at the point of a gun if necessary. And the hell with throwing tea overboard, its time to throw all of Congress out…vote for no incumbents, no matter what party.
This would allow permit holders from one state to travel through another state, even if that state has no carry law.
What part of “Inalienable” do these people not understand? We need to post that question to everyone in Political office, and if they get it wrong… Fire Them on the Spot!
ready aim fire?
This would be a dream come true. Too bad it will never happen. I live in MD where it is next to impossible to get a ccw unless you are retired LE. PA, DE, VA, and WV (all the states around me) are easy to get a ccw. WTF?
I hope it passes
I pray that our gutless wonders in DC would grow a spine and ram this through, it is needed.
These Congresscritters that struggle against the current majority and climate need support as much as the bad ones need pressure or removal.
Rep. Tiahrt is also running for Senate in 2010.

Every state recognizes other state’s driver’s licenses, marriage licenses and other things, so they should recognize the citizen’s concealed carry licenses, too.
Most Democrats would not favor this legislation, because they favor criminals and terrorists over law-abiding Americans who are asserting their 2nd Amendment right. But this bill should indeed smoke out the Dhimmicraps who favor gun-grabbing. Great idea. I even like the concept of the bill itself, although it will never pass the Congress, Senate, and Obonga.
The whores in congress will never pass this much needed legislation. Unless we can disguise it as an earmark. Then the whores will jump all over it. Remember, they are too busy trying to fuck their interns to read the legislation.
The gun issue will eventually prompt some sort of revolution from the middle and right. Maybe only a revolution via an awakening majority using the vote, but it could be something more. Obama and the far left will expedite the resolution.
That may be the issue. It may not. There are many potential sparks flickering over the powder keg that is America today.
A lot of people are waking up, and that’s why the traitors in D.C. are working so feverishly to put the final nails in the coffin of the Republic.
The cold reality is: there isn’t going to be a political resolution.
If the lawful Constitutional government is to be restored; if this country is to once again be truly free, there will be bloodshed. That is not a pleasant realization, but it’s true.
“A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”
