Although Watchmen topped the box office, I don’t think the opening made as much money as the producers thought it was going to. I have seen many mixed reviews, but the one thing that is clear is that the opening sequence was very popular. I found a video that gives multiple reviews and perspectives on the film. It’s pretty cool.
I missed the opening unless it was where he gets thrown thru the glass.
Was it Dr. or Mr. Manhattan, bout the only character I liked.

i liked it alot. but as a fan i had some deep sarrows bout some of the stuff that was changed around or otherwise skimmed over, but if u dont know or havent read the book then it may be easier to like, but the first hour is really a clusterfuck of info comming at you trying to bring u up to speed in a bloody haze of flashbacks that the comic and the motion comic only accomplishes introducing the characters properly. but overall very good, lots of action and need i say some breasts do fly out here and there as well as blood so not for the kidies :gun:

My take on the Film – It’s merely my opinion.
WARNING – SPOILER ALERT! I personally don’t care if these guys make a nickel.
UP FRONT. I’m no fanboy. I never read the Graphic Novel (Comic Book ), but I was invited to Art Center College of Design’s private viewing 2 days before the roll-out. I can only judge the film as presented.
There was a Q & A afterwards with the Director, Zack Snyder, Costume Designer and Computer Character Animator. Zack went to Art Center as a film student and was presenting a gift of an early viewing to his old school. Nothing of note was said by any of them. The crowd was of like mind. I have an ongoing relationship with ACCD so I refrained from blasting the Director publically.
As far as film making goes, it was powerful and interesting. They wanted the audience to think. The Computer Graphics are great and each character has a purpose.
However, this film will piss off Vietnam Vets, Conservatives and just about everyone that dislikes what pours out of Hollywood.
The theme of the film entertains all view-points, but that’s the problem. No weight is given to ANY point of view, other than the fact the film is 1/3rd about the God like character ‘Manhattan’. Cops are not good, Cops are not bad. So nothing is good or bad. I suppose that’s the idea. Nothing matters. Do what you want. Live the way you want. Take your life, don’t take your life. Millions die, so what? God does not really exist.
They mix types so the ‘Comedian’ character during the Vietnam War is John Kerry’s version of a combat soldier mixed with a gung ho, red blooded, Vietnam Vet. Think “American troops cutting off heads and ears, razing villages “in a fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan” and committing “crimes . . . on a day-to-day basis.”.” AND LOVING IT! He kills his Pregnant Vietnam Girlfriend in cold blood and laughs. ‘Manhatten’ kills because it seems to be the right thing at the time.
The blood and gore was fun in places, in a kind of cartoon way, and there are many very humorous gross out scenes. If you watch it, the prison scene is my favorite.
There are nude, simulated, sex scenes seemingly for only titillating purposes. It does not move the story along much. They are almost an after thought, seemingly to get the under 18 demographic to show up. To be fair, I suppose, the relationship with the God like ‘Manhattan’ is brought out more through his relationship with his girlfriend.
If you do decide to watch it, my favorite character is ‘Rorschach’. He is the last-real-man of our type left in the World, apparently, and is treated the way you would think. If you ask me he is the Hero of the film, but that was not what the film maker intended.
If you do not mind your head exploding, go ahead and see it. LEAVE THE KIDS AT HOME! This is NOT Batman! The wife will wonder why she went, and so will you, for different reasons.

for the above comment see i do agree with some parts and ye u never read the graphic novel which explains WAAAY more.. also the way they portray the comedian in the comic is very differant and way more cold. everything in the movie has so much more depth in the actual book… my suggestion read it. also it entiwinse you more into the alternate history
and yea Rorschach is in fact the last TRUE man on earth.. god i love his cold and effiecent ways also the dialogue ( better in the book too)

I enjoyed it tremendously.
I thought they showed a real dichotomy of the political viewpoints that currently exist in our society.
Loved Rorschach. I kept finding myself identifying with that character throughout the entire movie, even the end. Should I be worried that he’s portrayed as a psychopath?
The line where he tells the prisoners that they are confused about who is locked up with who, was classic.
I liked the strung out ending also, as I couldn’t help but feel like the save the world bullshit was just that. Bullshit.
I thought it was very clever how they tied the Nixon theme and the truth always coming out at the end was simply masterful.
While there were some comments that Republicans would find distasteful, like the Reagan jibe, I think that it is important that the most heinous villain, is symbolic of the socialist/communist mindset that millions must perish for the good of all.
I truly think that the hero was Rorschach, a character that would have to be labeled conservative if a label were to be applied. Rorschach is a foil for doing the right thing regardless of the consequences, while the other characters represent other segments of our society. I won’t go into great detail on that, as I’ve dragged on way to long, but for a nearly 3 hour movie, I enjoyed it immensely. Even with all of the gore and sex. Definitely not a kiddie film.
And somebody get Dr. Manhattan some pants for crying out loud. Anything except the ridiculous codpiece. That was worse than the nude stuff, but I digress.
Hell Jenny, if you want to see a penis or some ass I’m sure somebody here will volunteer.
