Capitalism – Oingo Boingo

Eh. Not really a fan, but sums up parlor pinks so well I thought I’d post it.

Lyrics (cause I can barely understand what he’s saying):

There’s nothing wrong with Capitalism
There’s nothing wrong with free enterprise
Don’t try to make me feel guilty
I’m so tired of hearing you cry

There’s nothing wrong with making some profit
If you ask me I’ll say it’s just fine
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to live nice
I’m so tired of hearing you whine
About the revolution
Bringin’ down the rich
When was the last time you dug a ditch, baby!

If it ain’t one thing
Then it’s the other
Any cause that crosses your path
Your heart bleeds for anyone’s brother
I’ve got to tell you you’re a pain in the ass

You criticize with plenty of vigor
You rationalize everything that you do
With catchy phrases and heavy quotations
And everybody is crazy but you

You’re just a middle class, socialist brat
From a suburban family and you never really had to work
And you tell me that we’ve got to get back
To the struggling masses (whoever they are)
You talk, talk, talk about suffering and pain
Your mouth is bigger than your entire brain
What the hell do you know about suffering and pain . . .

Not their best stuff musically but I was a pretty big fan back in the day…
Yeah, I wore eyeliner in the ’80′s, fuck you anyway!!

The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo. Yeah I was a fan for a short while. Danny Elfman is a brilliant composer.(Edward Scissor Hands and Batman come to mind)
Have no idea about his world view though, may be a liberal whack job for all I know.

Great lyrics…the music not so much. (it’s live, what do you expect?)

Wasn’t early alternative radio great? I still remember and appreciate Danny Elfmans & Co’s (A lot of those bands hurt themselves with their “catchy names” back then- IMO)lyrics to this day with “Only a Lad.” Set around a thuggish teen who gets passes by a fucked up society after every crime he commits. I always liked the way Danny calls the b/s.

“Hey there Johnny you really don’t fool me
    You get away with murder
    And you think it’s funny
You don’t give a damn if we live or if we die
    Hey there Johnny boy
    I hope you fry!”

I must admit I was an Elfman fan, but I hadn’t heard this one.

Makes me smile even more, knowing the irony that most of the punks that loved this band were the very punks he is talking about in this song. Dumbfucks whose mouths are bigger than their brains.

THere were plenty of punks who weren’t leftist. I wasn’t a skin, but I wore some of the uniform in HS, combat boots with white laces, the kids I went to school with wore docksiders and khakis. Nothing wrong with that, just a juxtaposition is all. I really hated the rich lib kids, they took everything for granted, snotty little bastards is how I felt at the time, oh so patronizing. I teach my kids over and over what Oingo Boingo is putting out here. What someone else has is fine, what others think of you now, in high school, in college; none of it means a thing since you will never see them again. I just got my 25th Reunion invite, too. I don’t see any reason to spend money to go see people I didn’t like in the first place, even out of morbid curiosity. Sorry about the tangent, please proceed.

The people you hated are still assholes and all the fuckers I like NEVER show up.Did my 20th and said FUCK THAT.Just got my 30th in mail, straight to the shredder.

      Johnny Ramone comes to mind.

I saw the Ramones in a high school gymnasium in the late 70′s.
