“If”

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream–and not make dreams your master,
If you can think–and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ‘em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on!”

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings–nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And–which is more–you’ll be a Man, my son!

    Can any body tell me where to find the music played along this stunning video?

    I’ve got this young soldier I’ve been taking care of since 4 years. He’s gonna go for his 4th tour to Afhanistan in July. He asked me for some overwhelming piece of music to be played in the worst-case-scenario, his funeral……

    I think I’ve found it.

    Also, I’ve copied and pasted this poem of Kipling. I think it’s a stuning piece to read out loud at my base before I say goodbye (again) to some of the men I’ve grown close to.

    Thanks Tictic for touching my heart.

      You are aware of the fact that I’m Dutch, live in the Netherlands and was talking about a Dutch soldier?

      Nevertheless:
      I’ve send your prayer to this particular soldier and received a mail back from him some 20 minutes later.

      His answer:
      “I feel humble and this prayer brought tears to my eyes.
      I’m even more determined now after volunteering for my 4th tour. Cause; we ARE Brothers In Arms, beyond borders.”

      And GRIZZ, he’s contacted a store where they’ll embroid your prayers on a white piece of cloth so he can carry it around with him on patrole.

      On behalf of this Dutch soldier:”Thank you, from the bottom of my heart”.

      (We’ve lost our 19th colleague last monday in the ongoing battle against evil in Afghanistan. Nothing compared by the number of loss amongst American soldiers. But for us, a small community that’s fighting against leftist scum in my small country that would rather see my fellow-countrymen bow towards Mecca, another blow.)

      Also, this powerfull prayer made me realise again how important Dollard Nation is.

      So to all of you here:
      Thank you.

      I pray for freedom in my country, and under stand America doesn’t owe the monopoly on freedom. My heart goes out to all the dutch people. Who have to live with a oppressing is-scum-ic influence on there country. Some day lite will burn the evils from your land. Until that day of freedom comes, I pray the Lord comfort & protects you in these hard & dark times.

      Sorry I meant America doesn’t own . Not owe.

    I have a lot of respect for the Dutch who I worked with in the early 80′s when I worked for a ship agency. Those guys were real hard working and very very innovative. When it was time to relax they were a real joy to have a few (many) drinks with. They all smoked roll your own black tobacco cigarettes. These were semisubmersible heavy lift ships and liquid gas tankers.

    Great Video and tribute to our soldiers, I pray for a safe return for my son and all soldiers.

    Thank you Tic!
