Mass National Guard Deployed To Boston Marathon?

I received a comm via my web site with the following link: Combat Support Battalion Deployed to “Maintain Public Order” at Boston Marathon and thought to pass this on. I am trying to get a hold of a friend of mine that is a Captain in the MA NG to confirm the data. If anyone has confirmation of this we need to know.

On Monday, the National Guard deployed 400 Massachusetts National Guardsmen from the 126th Combat Support Battalion to keep the Boston Marathon race route clear for more than 26,000 runners, according to the U.S. Army website.

Military presence during the 113th running of the Boston Marathon, April 20, 2009.

“Guardsmen don’t often experience interacting with the public while in uniform, and they see events like the marathon as a good opportunity to interact,” writes Sgt. James Lally for the American Forces Press Service. “The National Guard helps local police along the marathon route to safeguard spectators and maintain public order.”

The deployment is yet another example of the U.S. military collaborating with local law enforcement around the country. Under the Posse Comitatus Act passed on June 16, 1878 after the end of Reconstruction, the federal uniformed services — including the Army, Air Force, and State National Guard forces — are prohibited from exercising nominally state law enforcement, police, or peace officer powers that maintain “law and order” on non-federal property, except where expressly authorized by the Constitution or Congress.

National Guard forces operating under the state authority are technically exempt from Posse Comitatus Act restrictions. However, with the passage of the John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007, federal law was changed so that the Governor of a state is no longer the sole commander in chief of their state’s National Guard, a direct violation of Article I, Section 10 and Clause 3 of the Constitution.

Last year, Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced a fiat accompli when ordered the Pentagon to conduct a “broad review” to determine if the military and the National Guard and Reserve can “adequately deal with domestic disasters,” including “a catastrophic attack on the country.” Gates “pressed officials to better integrate reservists into the modern day military and consider treating them on a more equal basis to the active duty troops,” according to CBS News.

Another instancet violating Posse Comitatus. Earlier this month, we reported on a joint checkpoint operation involving DHS, federal and state agencies, the Air Force, and local law enforcement in Tennessee.

For example, the U.S. Army dispatching soldiers to patrol the streets of Samson, Alabama, after a rampaging gunman killed 10 people.

Last June, D. H. Williams of the Daily Newscaster reported the deployment of 2,300 Marines in the city of Indianapolis under the direction of FBI and the Department of Homeland Security.

Other instances of military deployment and collaboration with local law enforcement are too numerous to post here. The deployments and exercises have increased significantly since the U.S. military announced last year it will place 20,000 troops on the streets of America by 2011 under the control of the Northern Command. In October, the Department of Defense announced it was assigning a full-time Army unit to be “on call” to facilitate military cooperation with the Department of Homeland Security.

As Sgt. James Lally notes in his article on the deployment of National Guard troops at the Boston Marathon, the point is to acclimatize citizens to the presence of uniformed soldiers at civilian events.

Lally said the soldiers were in attendance to “safeguard” the public. However, this role is usually assigned to the police, not a combat support battalion. The military’s job is to break things and kill people during war, not protect civilians from participants in a marathon.

“the point is to acclimatize citizens to the presence of uniformed soldiers at civilian events.”

This is truly chilling. What about all those crazy rumors about detention facilities all over the US? Boy, they were WAY off the mark on that one (sheesh…).

    • nospyme

Congressman Alcee Hastings has a proposed bill(H.R.645) to build 6 detention facilities on military installations. WTF? They are being described as FEMA camp facilities, to be used to house U.S. citizens in the event of a national emergency. Maybe…

Also our boy Bush signed an executive order,(on 1-9-7), that gave the president the right to declare an emergency and take over direction of all federal, state, local, territorial and tribal governments without consulting Congress.[from WND, and Savage].

Also from WND, our DHS has awarded a $385 million contract to Houston-based KBR (Halliburton’s former engineering and constructionsubsidiary), to build temporary detention centers on an “as-needed” basis in national emergency situations.

Remember Biden’s comment about something happening and Americans not liking Obama’s response?……

    • American Woman

What state is this congressman from? I would like to look into it.
Yeah Biden said a “generated crisis” within the first 6 months to test his metal.

    • JCD

I used to dismiss things like this and what nospyme just said as conspirazoid until recently.

      Not anymore.

  • CptDustOff

So now all those right wing radical soldiers returning from war are deployed to protect U.S. citizens from?

  • bill-tb

    Agree with the acclimatize comment.

When was the last time they needed to clear the route for the runners? Or when was the last riot at a marathon?

    Stinks to high heaven.

  • American Woman

    WTF!! “acclimatize”?
We have managed to get by this long without military presence at sporting events why now?? for what?

Where they at the million man march?? Disney World??

  • GRIZZ

    Its called practice.

I guess they are making room for Obama’s private Civilian National Security Service that he just signed into affect.

  • John Howard

For the Guard it is probably an exercise in military support for civil authority. For the civilian agencies it is the flip side of that together with interagency cooperation. After 9-11 a set of unified disaster response procedures was created and all levels of govt got trained in it. They are a dummy level version of military staff, planning, and C2 procedures that can be applied to a marathon, a disaster, or post attack situations. It may help out unemployed Guard members, but warfighting skill sustainment it is not.

A commenter over at Wretchard’s Belmont Club (PJM) included this link regarding local Sheriffs. Our ACTIVE national leadership is probably already aware of this important link, but just to provide another perspective:

Wrote an article along those lines as well.

Massachusetts National Guardsmen were the original Minutemen.

The slow creep of the police state is upon us so as not to panic the sleeping citizens.
And the message to the American people? Nothing to worry about people…go back to sleep.

How do you boil a living frog? If you throw the frog into boiling water he will panic and immediately jump out. Put a frog in tepid water and very slowly increase the heat. By the time the frog realizes he’s going to die it’s too late. He will be too weak to jump.

If this kind of thing happened under another administration I might be less suspicious. Under the Usurpers admin., this is an ominous sign.

This is all about power relationships. The governed, the governors; the unarmed, the armed; the distracted, the watchful. We need to even the balance of power and remind our masters that they reign only because God allows it. Should he change His mind, however…

    • http://dotherightthing-cyberpastor.blogspot.com Annieb

Ivan, I disagree with you respectfully. There is NO evening the balance of powers with The Almighty God. God is, was, and has ALWAYS been more powerful than satan, thus is why Lucifer  was cast out of Heaven because he wanted balanced powers with GOD. God is omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, and unlike beelzebub, he can only be in one place at one time. Unfortunately, satan brought one third of the Heaven host with him down to Earth, and they are what we call demons, today, or, fallen angels. Personally, I believe this is were the demons exist mainly in America, in the far left, libturds, moon-bats, hate mongers, and those who chose to do ill will to their fellow brethren.
God does know what is going to happen to us, and our Nation, however, we got exactly what we asked for as a Nation, and now we cry out to God Almighty to save us. Gee, we sound just like the children of Israel did back in biblical times, and maybe even after that.
We all know that God could just click His finger, and poof, it could all go back to Pleasantville, but we would never learn our lesson that way, again! So, God is making us work for it, and work hard for it. So, the question of the hour is, are you & myself doing enough, to stop the insanity? Are you putting your neck out there on the line? Are you praying? Are you preparing yourself and your family and friends for what might come? How many major sporting events do we have to see NG or Civilian Army soldiers at, before we start pushing back? How can you and I push back?
 We all need to be proactive, not retroactive,
 we need to be taking action, not just reaction. So, once again, what are we doing to help take our country back? :?: :?:
Now, go out there and do the right thing!

God became incarnate as a man and was known among men as Jesus Christ. Satan became incarnate as a man and was known among men as Barack Obama.

      OUCH

Ivan, I think you hit the nail on the head. Sad part is, the Left are convincing people that Christ did not exsist also.

  • ghostie alix

i’m not clear on whether they’ve done this before. the army article reads as if this is a regular occurrence.

I think you are making a mountain out of nothing here. I watched the Marathon from four different spots on Monday. Guardsmen were holding the line at one, maybe two, of those places (I do not remember, because it really didn’t matter). Police did the job at the other places, usually standing (but up at B.C. they were riding motorcycles to push people back). Of course there were no riots or even any problem, except that the crowds gradually and constantly move into the road to see the runners, and someone needs to get them to keep back and let the runners run. The kids from the guard were doing just fine.
