Washington Post:

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano responded yesterday to widespread criticism of a leaked domestic intelligence report warning local law enforcement agencies to be on guard for right-wing extremist groups seeking new recruits amid the nation’s economic troubles.

“Let me be very clear: we monitor the risks of violent extremism taking root here in the United States,” Napolitano said in a written statement issued by her department. “We don’t have the luxury of focusing our efforts on one group; we must protect the country from terrorism whether foreign or homegrown, and regardless of the ideology that motivates its violence.”

The department’s office of intelligence and analysis distributed the report to state and local law enforcement agencies April 7. The office regularly publishes intelligence analyses of domestic and international threats to the nation’s borders and infrastructure.

The report drew sharp criticism from Republican lawmakers, conservatives and veterans groups, who said it unfairly targeted returning military veterans and gun rights advocates without citing specific threats. The report said the return of military veterans facing challenges with reintegrating into their communities “could lead to the potential emergence of terrorist groups or lone wolf extremists capable of carrying out violent attacks.”

“To characterize men and women returning home after defending our country as potential terrorists is offensive and unacceptable,” House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) said in a statement. “The Department of Homeland Security owes our veterans an apology.”

American Legion National Commander David K. Rehbein sent a letter to Napolitano calling the report incomplete and politically biased. The secretary plans to meet with Rehbein next week when she returns from a series of trips, according to her statement.

Aides said privately that the secretary regrets that critics have construed the report’s language to suggest that the department perceives a threat from veterans, noting that the department’s various agencies employ thousands of military veterans and that some of Napolitano’s deputies once served in uniform.

“We are on the lookout for criminal and terrorist activity but we do not — nor will we ever — monitor ideology or political beliefs,” Napolitano said in the statement. “We take seriously our responsibility to protect the civil rights and liberties of the American people, including subjecting our activities to rigorous oversight from numerous internal and external sources.”

“We are on the lookout for criminal and terrorist activity but we do not — nor will we ever — monitor ideology or political beliefs,”

But that’s exactly what they’re doing!!! Referring to us as “right-wing extremists” in itself is an admission of guilt regarding going after political views. Jeez, will somebody call her out for being the candy-coating, freedom hating marxist that she is?

These idiots have shot themselves in the foot. This DHS/IA report is going to work to our advantage.

1.) It is an open and honest announcement that the administration considers patriotic Americans to be enemies of the state or potential enemies of the state. There is simply no need to speculate anymore and no one can plausibly deny it.

2.) It has generated a firestorm of publicity, which couldn’t have possibly been timed better as it came to light on the eve of the Tea Parties.

3.) Due to its blatant anti-American subversive nature, it has slapped a lot of people in the face who didn’t understand the extent to which patriotic Americans are considered a threat in Washington.

It would be tough to produce a better piece of promotional material.

I found a link to the ‘report’ done for the LEFTIST EXTREMISTS: http://www.foxnews.com/projects/pdf/Leftwing_Extremist_Threat.pdf You can see it uses the same template, created in 2007, and modified on January 26,2009. Not as incendiary, and has little concerning destructive actions taken by the Lefts adherents.

Fred Thompson also twittered that DoD has been given another fully unqualified appointment - “…ex-Los Angeles Times columnist and Georgetown law professor Rosa Brooks has just been made an adviser to Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Michelle Fluornoy - a move Brooks describes as “my personal government bailout.” See http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/nile_gardiner/blog/2009/04/16/rosa_brooks_the_pentagons_far_left_adviser

God forfend, but it just might take a military coup to clean all the muck and mire out of DC!

Did anyone at DHS stop to consider that the very people they are sending this report out to (Law Enforcement) tend to fall into one or more of the categories they list as threats?

Many law enforcement officers are military veterans, oppose illegal immigration, and are gun owners, etc. The Government, through DHS; has insulted without cause the very people that help protect our way of life through armed public service in the military and law enforcement.

Our current representatives and appointees clearly do not have a clue. With that being said, there is no need for any of them to apologize. They just need to understand that they are in over their heads and resign for the greater good.

  6. THERE ONCE WAS A MOONBAT NAMED NAPOLITANO,
SHE LURKS IN A CAVE MUNCHING ROMANO ,
    HOMELAND SECURITY WAS HER GAME,
HER PRIME DIRECTIVE WAS TO DEFAME,
BUT WE ALL KNOW SHE’S FULL OF BAT GUANO.

What this means is they’re scared that we are catching on to their nefarious deeds. They know that they are doing evil to the american people and they clearly state who their enemy is. The american people who hold steadfastly to the ideals that made this nation great. They’re shittin’ their pants because the sleeping giant is finally awake.

You gotta do this. Call DHS 202-282-8495 tell them you are against illegal immagration and need to report yourself as a right wing extremist. They just hung up on me. I am gonna keep calling every day and tell them I seen another right wing extremist in my town. There everywhere man!!!! There’s another one! Hes got a NOBAMA bumber sticker too!

  10. Resign Napolitano, Resign now :!: :!:

  11. Napolitano’s use of the 1995 Oklahoma City attack as an example of why US military veterans are supposedly a threat to us all certainly is intriguing-

That bombing was a single event, almost 14 years ago- hasn’t Al Qaida staged hundreds of attacks on US interests since then? Why so little mention of them since she was appointed three months ago- isn’t keeping a lid on those medieval savages 80% of her job description? Isn’t that why the Department of Homeland Security created in the first-place?

Apparently there is no bounds to what government assets Obama will prostitute for his own purposes… while neglecting daunting, actual threats in the meantime.

So all who wondered why Obama chose this obedient toady to head Homeland Security now have their answer: a serious choice who would have focused upon real terrorist threats -not imaginary, partisan ones- like, say, a Rudolph Giuliani, wouldn’t have been a willing participant in such a sham report.
