And, hey, if the guy turns out to be innocent of the accusations, they’ll just pat him on the back and pay for the psychotherapy he’ll need afterwards. Naah, that may end up being expensive. Offer him an “I’ve been whaterboarded by US Army Forces and survived” t-shirt. I’m sure he’ll wear it proudly. Plus, it’ll work as a wonderful conversation starter. Hell, he may even improve his chances of getting laid. In the end, it’s a favour the US will be offering him FOR FREE!!! You don’t get many of those.

So, in the comments I see these arguments:
–Waterboarding is effective (presumably, effective at producing accurate intelligence)
–WB is quick
–WB is not as bad as decapitation
–WB is not torture
–WB is a proven technique (presumably, proven to produce accurate intelligence)
–WB is unpleasant but not fatal
–WB is nothing compared to what our enemies do to our captured soldiers
–WB is nothing compared to tortures used throughout history
–WB does not cause permanent damage or intense physical pain
–WB has been used by US Forces since at least WWII

I was watching a WWII show on the history channel. They had film of some soldiers or Marines doing a variation of this. When my Uncle came home from Viet Nam in ’67 he told how they did this to get people to talk. Whether it’s in the field manual or not it has been used for generation to get needed information fast.

It works and no permanent damage or intense physical pain. That does fit the deinition of torure in my book.

So, if Barry’s daughters were being held by al-Qaeda and we han in custody an al-Qaeda member who had info that would allow a rescue, you mean to tell me Barry would not do whatever is necessary to the detainee in order to get that info????? Come on!! Why doesn’t someone ask Barry that question??? I’ll bet it would be another Dukakis moment.

What’s lacking is a clear definition of Torture.

One could say waterboarding is not torture because it induces no physical pain. However, a mock execution induces no physical pain but is generally accepted as torture.

One definition of torture is: “any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person for such purposes as obtaining from … information or a confession..”

Key term is ‘severe pain or suffering’. I think waterboarding does not rise to that level … at best it is coercive.

Again, how do we get this info out there. Too many people have not seen this, have no idea what waterboarding is, think they know ‘torture’ from B-movies seen while drunk.

Maybe we should have a definition of torture so that when some libtard starts mouthing off about ‘torture’ we have things to waterboard him or her with.

BT, exactly.

Calling waterboarding (and other techniques used) torture, only weakens the meaning of true torture; such as pulling out fingernails, cutting off body parts, burning eyes out, etc. The best analogy I’ve heard, same as what happened to the term rape. Liberals broadened the meaning of rape to include any sex that a woman regretted having, including one night stands. Some went as far to call The term was over-used ALL sex by a man rape. Now that same attention is being paid to torture, broadening it’s description for political gain within a narrow mind-set. It softens the focus on true acts of torture taking place world-wide and weakens our ability to fight against such groups using torture.
