Pope warns of ‘a desert of godlessness’ in Good Friday address
Daily Mail

Pope Benedict XVI last night attacked the rise of aggressive secularism in Western societies, warning them that they risked drifting into a ‘desert of godlessness’.

He used his Good Friday meditations to compare deliberate attempts to remove religion from public life to the mockery of Jesus Christ by the mob as he was led out to be crucified.

‘Religious sentiments’ were increasingly ranked among the ‘unwelcome leftovers of antiquity’ and ‘held up to scorn and ridicule’, he added.

‘We are shocked to see to what levels of brutality human beings can sink,’ said the Pope at an evening ceremony at the Coliseum in Rome.

‘Jesus is humiliated in new ways even today when things that are most holy and profound in the faith are being trivialised, the sense of the sacred is allowed to erode.

‘Values and norms that held societies together and drew people to higher ideals are laughed at and thrown overboard. Jesus continues to be ridiculed.’

The German-born Pope, who turns 82 later this month, prayed Christians would respond by growing in faith.

‘May we never question or mock serious things in life like a cynic,’ he added. He also condemned the oppression of women, saying there were ‘many societies in the world where women fail to receive a fair deal.’

‘Christ must be weeping for them,’ he said.

I married a person of Catholic faith and my children have been Baptized in the Catholic faith.

I was poised to convert to Catholicism myself but after watching the passivity to evil that I have seen I have chosen not to make that commitment.

I have seen nuns protesting the Iraq war, nuclear energy, the Bush administration and heard the words of priests in agreement. I have not heard equally strong protests by the church of the bondage of women and children in murderous societies, I have not heard the protest of nations that torture their citizens. I have only heard silence and the shuffling of legal papers as checks are written.

Those are not unique features of the Catholic Church Steve.

“Desert ofGodlessness” is a perfect description of society ruled by the moral relativism of Statists like Barry Soetero, Sarkozy, Brown, et al… looking to create a government cartel of Socialism.

I like this Pope, even though I am not Catholic.
Unfortunately like many religions, to say I am Christian doesnt necessarily mean you follow its dictates.
“Why do you call me Lord Lord and not do what I say” Bible.
Beware the bad times to come. God always sends a warning beforehand.

I, also not being Catholic, like this Pope a great deal. I think that he stands up for what he believes is right, regardless of the consequences. Have you heard of the prophecies of St. Malachy?
