Tiller has been the target of anti-abortion violence. On August 19, 1993, he was shot in both arms outside of the Wichita clinic by Shelley Shannon, who received an 11-year prison sentence for the crime.”

    As a Wichitan, I can tell you this will be a BIG deal here. While I am opposed to abortion for the most part, no one wants to see someone murdered. Dr. Tiller was a controversial figure to be sure, but his murder is not going to help resolve this issue in any way. I am not glad he is dead, nor will you hear me say he deserved it.

      Myself although I don’t advocate abortion, I am not an activist pro-life either. I do feel strongly about late term abortion. To me if a baby is capable of living outside the womb, there is no argument it is a human life.

      This guy Tiller whether it was for ideals or just money made a living off killing babies that should have been born. Unfortuantely someone just turned into a left wing martyr, that will be invoked everytime their is any sensable abortion opposition.

      I agree completely. That’s what I meant by my previous post – Tiller is now a martyr for the abortion issue, and this will not stop his clinic’s work. That’s why I’m not glad he was killed. If he had just had a change of heart and quit, I’d have been all for it.

      How do you have the balls to say that he didn’t deserve it? You don’t have to advocate for his murder by admitting he deserved it. The man killed viable children with a passion. His clinic was bombed, he was shot, he had to deal with death threats, protests, law suits and criminal prosecution that spanned decades. Yet the man still wouldn’t stop. His pursuit to kill the unborn was unparalleled. He definitely deserved it.

      I won’t presume to say he deserved it because he, like every other citizen of this country, has a RIGHT to life. His actions, while many don’t agree with them, were not illegal according to our laws. He had as much right to live as the children he aborted. To celebrate his death when saying you support life is hypocritical. His murder will only entrench the pro-choice movement even more, and will make changing the current laws more difficult. As you say, he has dealt with decades of death threats, litigation, been shot, and had his clinic bombed. He didn’t stop because according to our laws, he didn’t have to. The criminal charges against him never stuck or he was acquitted, and the other threats to his life were just as illegal as his murder. That’s why the last person who shot him remains in prison. Whether I support abortion (I do not) or not is irrelevant. It is not my place, nor anyone else’s, to judge him. That is up to God, and I will not presume to know what His decision will be.

      Also, I am not celebrating his death. Did he deserve it? Yes. But that isn’t a cause for celebration. This man wasted his life. He was a physician who wasted his gifts and the lives of innocents and ultimately his own life.

      I never said it was okay…I said it was legal. I don’t agree with it at all, nor do I agree with any of the other issues you mentioned. Those issues, however, were ultimately resolved through laws, or the changing of the law in this country. I do not support the laws of Saudi Arabia regarding women either. However my opinion of those laws does not change them.

      You say Tiller wasted his life. That is your opinion, and you have every right to it. The other side will say the exact opposite, as is their right to do so. I will not say he deserved to be murdered any more than I would say that a baby deserved to be aborted. To say that one person deserves to live while the other does not simply because you disagree on a particular issue does not justify murder.

      D & E stands for Dilation and Evacuation. In ‘normal’ abortions the cervix is dilated and the contents of the uterus (baby parts) are removed through irrigation and suction.

      When babies start to grow things like organs and bones its harder to suck em out. This is even more difficult when the kid (oops tissue mass) weighs multiple pounds. To overcome this the typical D & E is ‘augmented’. Which usually means the head is delivered and the brain stem is cut. This can be tricky because once the mouth and nose are outside of the birth canal there is chance that the baby could start crying.

      Of course, NickD(ensignricky71) is totally cool with this since it is legal in Kansas.

    I am don’t believe in abortion, but begrudgingly acknowledge that any woman who would consider having her fetus killed probably would not be much of a mother, so it may be a act of mercy to end it early, so accept her choice.

    Pisses me off to no end that taxes pay for the shit more often than not thou, should be a 1 strike and your ass is fixed kind of thing in my book.

    However, I think killing this guy was just fucking stupid, not that he deserved it or not, but that the way the press is going to run with it will do far more damage than good towards getting some kind of regulation on abortion.
