Boston officer suspended for 2 days; lawmakers had cut bonuses

BOSTON – A Boston police officer has been suspended for ticketing a slew of vehicles parked near the Statehouse on the same day the state Senate cut funding for a police education bonus program.

Police department spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll tells the Boston Herald that internal affairs is investigating whether the ticketing spree was “improper use of authority.” Commissioner Ed Davis told WBZ-AM radio that Officer John P. Mullan has been suspended for two days.

Mullan handed out 15 tickets on Wednesday, the same day the Senate slashed $51 million in funding for the Quinn Bill, which boosts pay for police officers with advanced degrees. The newspaper reports that Mullan earned an additional $13,000 last year based on the bill.

Some of the tickets were put on cars belonging to legislative staffers that were parked legally with legislative stickers. Driscoll says all the tickets will be reviewed.

Calls to a telephone listing for a John P. Mullan and the Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association were not immediately returned Friday morning.

    No, that’s Boston.

Remember, this the Boston where the chief of police told the press that the concealed carry permits were not allowed in the city limits of Boston.

Apparently he had a discussion with the state police chief and the chief of Boston Police relented, sort of.

The concealed carry law in MA was meant to outlaw handguns because ‘Boston’ (many in Boston think MA IS Boston)thought no police chief would issue the concealed carry permits.

    But they did…
Sure, police chiefs of large cities don’t like to but small city police chiefs were eager to issue them.

This is also the place where police in Revere harrassed a flagger (flagman) because they wanted the duty. Yes, police here in MA are paid BIG MONEY to direct traffic around construction sites (assuming they aren’t asleep in their cars).

So, no, it isn’t funny. It’s MA.
