    This is the problem, as Americans, most Americans are NOT prepared, intellectually, to deal with context, to think their way out of a wet paper bag. Americans are not trained in our schools to think, to consider, to understand.

    Americans are being trained to react emotionally to issues, not disect them and understand them.

    What would a high school or college student derive from this snippet?

    Deflect. Try to shift blame onto Bush for Obama’s bumbling of the issue. I could give two shits what Bush did or didn’t do. You don’t get to sit there, make excuses, and point figers at president. You MUST formulate coherant policy.

    The true canard is the premise that the prisoners held at Gitmo are somehow entitled to the full benefits and privileges of an American citizen and the American justice system.

    This is a step back to the Clinton days of using law enforcement to combat terrorists rather than the military.

    Gayle Rivers in his book “How to Win the War Against Terrorism” makes the following point: The law enforcement crowd think that terrorists are criminals and should be arrested and tried. The military views them as a threat to national survival and takes appropriate action to eliminate the risk.

    The relative safety we have enjoyed for the past 8 years is a reflection of the Bush administrations view that these people are a threat … deal with them accordingly!
