Have Your Concealed Handgun Permit Yet?
GET SOME

Contrary to the anti gun claims of “shootouts” at every car accident and a return to the Wild West, the advent of concealed legal handgun carry has come faster than many people thought that it ever would. Being among the first to liberalize handgun laws, the state of Florida opened a veritable floodgate of changes in almost every state’s laws to allow concealed carry. Of the 18 million Floridians, over 1 million have concealed carry permits. Permit holders in Florida are the usual law abiding people found in the general population of licensees, and the bane of criminals. God forbid that a thug should be shot while plying his trade. There has been a minuscule amount of revocations in all states, mostly concerning alcohol/driving related crimes. Anti gun groups joyfully point to this minority to show the flaws of legal carry. Yet, they ignore the daily news of people protecting themselves from criminals with handguns they carry legally.
39 states are currently “shall issue” states where government officials are required by state law to issue carry permits to those who have jumped through the legal hoops and background checks to get the permit. 9 states are still “may issue” states, where the state officials have the discretion to issue or not. Most of these officials require a showing of a “need” for a permit. In almost all cases, simple self defense is not a sufficient reason.
The new Orange County, California sheriff has embroiled herself in controversy by revoking many current permit holders when she came into office. These unfortunate people didn’t show the “need” for one that she required in her opinion. Politically connected people always had an advantage in getting permits in this type of jurisdiction.
Just Illinois and Wisconsin are the remaining holdouts. The Illinois Sheriff’s Association came out in favor of concealed permit issue there. This was the first time they were in favor of concealed permits since the 1920’s. It seems like there is a groundswell throughout the state outside of Chicago for loosening of gun carry restrictions.
The Daley political machine, in its infinite wisdom, has denied those in the Windy City the right to self defense. Of course, everyone knows that Chicago is a truly gun free zone, and there are no citizens terrorized by thugs carrying guns as a direct result of the Daley gun philosophy. Wisconsin’s governor continues to oppose concealed carry there and a veto is currently a dead end for change.
Gun purchases are still increasing according to the latest FBI figures. The number of people going through a Brady background check hit a high in March this year, and was up by 29.2% over a year ago
Most states have reported huge increases in those applying for permits. Looking at just a few representative states, here’s what was found. In Georgia, there were 67,640 applications in 2007, and 121,219 in 2008. That’s an increase of 79.2%.
In Michigan, the State reported that in July of last year it had approved 171,586 applications with 6,088 still pending and in March, 2009 had 185,500 applications approved with 10,138 still pending.
Oklahoma officials said that a record 21,000 plus people applied for Oklahoma concealed permits in 2008.
Earlier this year the State of Florida was overwhelmed with a backlog of 95,000 new applications for concealed handgun permits. The State approved spending $3.9 million dollars to hire 61 more temporary workers to process the applications. Hats off again to Obama for creating more jobs.

Here is something most people don’t think about. Once you apply for a permit they know you have a gun. When the round up starts they have your name and address.
In in Illinois we have to have a FOID charge to buy guns or ammo. No guns are registered but we are..
But if Illinois every did get CC passed I would get one. But we never will.
Come n Get em’
I have thought about it…and its what stops me from getting one. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
I’ve thought of applying for a concealed-carry permit, but in view of recent events and what is coming I think I’ll pass on that. Once they know you own something, they can confiscate it in the future. You’d better believe that they are going to pass legislation requiring us to register ALL guns. That is the precursor to confiscation, logically. Right now, our priorities should be to hide what we have. Eric Holder did not agree with the Heller decision; he does not believe in the 2nd Amendment - he interprets it to mean a “militia” right (i.e., National Guard).
An awful lot of gun owners I talk to all agree that Obonga and the international oligarchs and bureaucrats want to get guns away from Americans. George Soros and Maurice Strong want us under an international law by 2012 and Mr. Strong believes we will be effectively under U.N. control by then. There is a treaty before the Senate up for ratification that includes a clause that requires the disarmament of the U.S. population.
You are right Fred and I really don’t want them knowing what I have and they don’t. Maybe a few of them, but I lost those in a boat accident a few years ago!!
I don’t think Obama will try anything until after the 2010 or even the 2012 elections. This is a big one for them and they want it bad. I just hope the 100 million gun owners stick together. The biggest thing we can do is elected as many gun supporting people to office in the next two elections and buy more ammo if you can find it.
Yeah, you are registered with the CCW but at least I don’t have to worry about being dragged down to jail because I am carrying a legal firearm in FL.
BTW, I took the course and submitted everything back around 3/10/09. My check cleared on 4/22/09 and I am still wating for the permit to arrive! Not the fastest process, that’s for sure!
Orange county’s new sheriff is doing more then just revoking the permits. Because she’s terminating the permits before they’re expiration dates shes causing permanent damage to the holders record with the DOJ and other government agencies. This can result in lost security clearances and jobs.
She’s definitely a bad apple and a product of the failed LA system. Several of her new under-sheriffs she brought over with her are even worse.
Her idea of a safe county is one where the law abiding citizens are unarmed and she tries to manage the criminals with too few officers.
Yes, 95 percent of the crimes that occur…police arrived only to clean up the mess! We had a case in my city where two Vietnamese males walked into a restaurant at about 11 pm and killed one person and wounded about 4 or 5 more. Police were right around the corner and heard the shots…both badguys got away and are still at large as far I have heard….the only place I might be able to get a gun permit here is San Bernadino…and that is a big maybe….unbelievable!! The badguys own the streets here….you don’t know who is going to pull a gun on you…all I know is that I have no way to defend myself in that case….
I got mine after obongo won the election. Let them try to take my guns away.
Question: If it is my RIGHT, then why do I need a PERMIT?
Answer: I don’t, and neither do you.
BINGO
You are quite correct. The government cannot license a right. It ceases to be a right.
I dont see anyone mentioning that when you LEGALLY purchase a firearm, the feds alredy know who you are and where you live. Its called a back ground check.Any information you give for a carry permit is alredy in the feds data base.So get your butts out there and get yours. :
Grizz, in Wisconsin, I can sell you the gun, I’m tired of owning and all I need to do is check your ID to make sure you are over 21 years of age. Most sellers make out a receipt to cover themselves. I have purchased used guns in Texas, Oklahoma and Wisconsin. There is no law requiring me to register any firearms in Wisconsin. Happens all the time and they are LEGAL.
Correct you are.I should have clarified that your purchase of a firearm from a gun shop confers your info to the feds.
Interesting…all very interesting. Someone needs to remind people for the umpteenth time how well Prohibition work in the 1920s. The Volstead Act only encouraged liquor production, organized crime, and made consumption of alcohol outrageously popular. It also made the Feds look like a bunch of morons.
That background check is illegal also. Just because we do it doesn’t make it right.
What part of the Constitution gives the Federal government permission to restrict the purchase of guns and ammo?
http://www.gunlaws.com/GunLawUpdate5-CIFTA.htm
This is the treaty Fred is talking about. CIFTA.
Read it. It is coming…..an end run around the constitution. Again. and again…
Pat has a Lou Dobbs video on Cifta posted herein, also, but the above link is a detailed analysis.
If this is ever ratified this should be the signal that its time to roll…
The Founders of this nation never intended foreign powers to cancel out our Constitutional rights, much less internal traitors like Obonga and his cohorts.
The more I look hard at what is happening in this country, the more sad I feel. Civil war/rebellion is coming. We are going to have to kill other Americans in order to preserve our rights and our Constitution. I take no joy in the thought of that. However, I hope every one of us here is committed to the political process and exhausting it first. That is what the Founders did and the farmers and tradesmen of pre-Revolutionary times did. They kept taking it up with Parliament and the King until all hope for redress of the wrongs was gone.
Meanwhile, we need to organize and plan every scenario. The absolute worst thing that could happen would be some hot head or hot heads go off on their own and “gone and done it.” It would give the feds just the pretext to do what Gen. Thomas Gage was sent to Boston to do. Keep cool. Bide our time. Be united in purpose and resolve. Be faithful to each other and our cause, which is the salvation of our nation from tyranny.
Yeah, I hope the political process doesn’t exhaust. It’s been past time to be good life motivators than in contrary to those sad, leeching and pessimistic wacko’s in charge.
The silver lining in all this is the state’s rights movement for sovereignty as boldly demonstrated this week in Montana. Now Utah has established a Patrick Henry Caucus, and Texas is following. This is the start of “real change”. Change back to the values we cherish, and the collective demand of we, the people, that the Obamists cease and desist from this scorched earth policy on the 1st, 2nd, and many other amendments. I do have my guns, and I am not going for the conceal/carry permit. The GPS of my front door by ACORN is bad enough, but I’m not going to put a neon sign up that says “gun owner lives here.=’terrorist” since I’m also a Viet Nam era vet.
Call me one of the silent majority who is not about to go down without a fight.
