I’ve read both speeches.

Obama’s is the speech of a young senator who was once a part-time law professor–platitudinous and preachy, vague and pseudo-thoughtful in an abstract kind of way. This sentence was revealing: “On the other hand, I recently opposed the release of certain photographs that were taken of detainees by U.S. personnel between 2002 and 2004.” “Opposed the release”? Doesn’t he mean “decided not to permit the release”? He’s president. He’s not just a guy participating in a debate. But he’s more comfortable as a debater, not as someone who takes responsibility for decisions.

Cheney’s is the speech of a grownup, of a chief executive, of a statesman. He’s sober, realistic and concrete, stands up for his country and its public officials, and has an acute awareness of the consequences of the choices one makes as a public official and a willingness to take responsibility for those choices.

    Everyone should read ‘Death of the grown up’ by Diana West and it will all become very clear.

    Obama WAS speaking as a child trying to defend why he was coming in through his window after curfew.
    Cheney was speaking as an adult.

    Comparing the two makes this very clear. VERY clear.

    We are, in many ways, a nation of children, not adults.
    That is, in many ways, the root cause of these problems.

    If it comes to gunfire, we will be fighting angry children, not aparatchiks in the NGKD (sp?) or committed Brownshirts.

    The people in power now are children. That should be an important point.

    What we need to do is constantly needle them, tease them, push, push, push…they will then soon need a spanking and will be easy to send to bed for a much needed nap.

    Notice how someone who is honest, nothing to hide, speaking from a wealth of personal experience and memory come across as styraight, focused, clear, corroborative? You never have to explain the truth. Innocence is immediately and qualified denial with fact to back it up and anger at the assertion of guilt.

    This is in stark contrast to the younger Golden Child whose seemingly entire aura is deceptive and arrogant with rationalizations and projections to bolster shallow defenseless deception.

    I think we knew this all along, some of us notice instinctively, some it takes a long time but they eventually notice and say hey wait a minute here. Then the lying bastards are exposed of their own karma.

    I was home sick with the flu and saw both speeches. Someone needs to get transcripts and compare the usage of the terms terrorist, prisoners, enemy compatants etc. The feeling I got was Obama went out of his way to not say the word terrorist.

    BOTH Cheney’s knocked the ball out of the park today.
    Liz Cheney scewered Anderson Cooper with every pitch.

    Pat, I think other will agree, I cant get enough of Cheney. Thing haven’t felt so great, but he is like fresh coffee in the morning, a breath of fresh air, Cheney is exactly what the doc. order, its so awesome to have some one on the TV that’s making a stand. As for me you couldn’t over post stuff on this great man. I have a good feeling he is int going away any time soon, OMG I just felt a tingle go up my leg, I finely get what Chris Mathews was talking about. LOL
    Crap I have to much free time on my hands.

    Make you wounder why he didnt run for President. His compelling arguments were said with conviction unlike McCain who pandered to the middle. I dont think he would have won but his leadership skills would have made the comaping far more honest with respect to the issues.
