The results of this event were the same as a full fledged war crime against the US! It was enough of a scandal for the left to grab it and use it to destroy the entire war effort in the press. Those young American guards might have been bored and 'goofing' at a master butt-head level, but in the end the damage they caused to the war effort is incalculable. Access was very limited to that part of the installation, so soldiers worked without too many people watching. Especially on the night shift when most of this stuff happened. The truth is the people held responsible lost their military professionalism. The leadership failed to notice or take steps to bring it up to standard, even those the rumours of what went on were common. The people involved knew they were not behaving proper for a member of the US Military. Their actions, followed by the exagerations in the press, have put a stain on the honor of the all the people who stood tall and carried out their duty as expected of a member of the US Military. They need to take responsibility for what they did or failed to stop. Their failure to do so only stops this wound they caused for healing and going away.
