Wait just a minute. Lindsey Graham is NOT attacking “fellow Republicans.” Lindsey Graham is atatcking Ron Paul for saying that the war in Iraq was illegal and that we by our policies invited the 9/11 attacks. Lindsey Graham then gives full throated support to out troops.
I am sure that there are plenty of readers here who agree with Lindsey Graham on this.
Congress did declare war and beyond a Concurrence of two-thirds… It is implied by the action of their vote!
Article 1 / Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution - Powers of Congress “To declare War”
Joint Resolution 114 was taken on October 11, 2002. It passed the Senate by a vote of 77 to 23, and the House of Representatives by a vote of 296 to 133.
A Resolution allows the President discretion to act and decide if troops will be committed to war so that Congress can sit back and not take responsibility for the war.
Then they whine and complain and try to stop funding when they don’t like how it is going. They also argue about the reasons etc, and work to make it harder to win the war, because it is not THEIR war it is BUSH’s War.
It is the role of the Congress to decide YES or NO on going to war, not the President’s.
As a veteran of Iraq, it has been difficult for me to admit but the Iraq and Afghanistan wars are both unconstitutional.
A person’s commitment to the Constitution is not tested when his personal views are consistent with the Constitution, but rather when conflict exists between the two.
A partisan will seek to rationalize his views while a patriot will subjugate his personal agenda or desires to the rule of Law.
The whole issue just seems more like splitting hairs for political purposes to me… Ron Pauls stand on National Defense was far too weak, imagine him as president during WW2? Or 9/11?
Have mistakes been made? Sure, but I can’t buy into the whole cynical viewpoint, it becomes a slippery slope of responsibility… That is best left to later debate and history to sort out, right now there is a threat to this country like never seen before sitting in the white House!
However, though I support the GWOT, Lindsey Graham is a skunk of the highest order, and is by no standard a Conservative. Lindsey Graham is the problem with the Republican Party - he is a person in it for his own political gain and nothing else.
I am proud to say I did not vote for Senator Graham’s re-election in 2008, and am from the one county in SC that Senator Graham didn’t win.
So you have as a Senator for South Carolina a pro-military, mostly conservative Republican in Lindsey Graham instead of a Democrat in Bon Conley. You are far, far better off. Regardless of how conservative Conley may have been in the past at home, once a Democrat gets to Washington D.C., he is expected to toe the line. Rahm Emmanuel offers what amounts to a pact with the Devil, and he demands payment upon arrival in Washington D.C..
Graham is right now going after Pelosi. Don’t kid yourself that Conley would do the same. Graham voted against Obama’s budget and bailout bills. Don’t kid yourself that Conley would have done the same.
No more RINO’s, at the very least! There should be a blood bath in the Republican Party purging all fo these RINO’s from positions of political power. Gentlemen farmers was the term in the good old days, today it’s Joe the Plumber. Get THOSE guys elected for a single or double term and no more.
Be careful which tea party you attend. Some are sponsored, organized and run by Ron Paul supporters. All of his people seem to have a good heart, but we don’t need the white-noise-level raised. Let’s agree to support actual conservatives willing to back the Constitution and Capitalism.
The RonPaul-bots will usurp the message if you let them.
Shove a big tent, also Michel Steel can shove it on that note, we need a right, far right , and even farther right to combat the extreme liberals at our front door.
While you might disagree with him about the war, what about everything else?
How much better off would we be if he where the President now?
Unlike, Obama and McCain, he does not support the bailouts and he would actually do something about the size of government.
What good does it do us if we continue to fight the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq while we destroy ourselves from within with our irresponsible fiscal policies?
I did not support Ron Paul during the election, and I regret it now.
Read his book “The Revolution” and then tell me what you think of him.
With John McCain, you would have had a supremely capable Commander in Chief, which in time we will be very sorry not to have. McCain is very knowledgeable and experienced concerning foreign policy, military matters and national security. And, by the way, McCain has voted against every Obama bailout and budget bill, denouncing the multi-trillion dollare deficit spending as “generational theft.”
As good as Ron Paul may seem on domestic issues, he sounds like a Democrat on foreign policy issues. Saying that we invited by our policies the 9/11 attacks, which is what Ron Paul said, is just nonsense. The same foreign policy and national security problems that we will have with Obama as President, we would have with Ron Paul as President.
McCain voted against every bailout? What about the first one under Bush?
He actually helped get it passed after adding $150 billion in bribes/pork to get enough of the Republicans to go a along with it.
He also supports amnesty and played a big role in Medicare Part D. He is hardly a fiscal conservative.
As far as the 9/11 attacks, have you read his book? What he says is that we need to understand why we were attacked, which is reasonable.
If you are going to fight a war, you need to understand what motivates the enemy.
Bottom line, I am convinced the no terrorist can ever cause as much damage to our country as we are doing to ourselves. And it is being done by republicans and democrat alike. McCain is no exception.
The single greatest threat to our the freedom, prosperity, and liberty in America is the Federal government. At least in my opinion.
As much as I would like to see freedom, liberty, etc. in Iraq and Afghanistan, my first priority is America. And someone like Ron Paul is MUCH better prepared to do that than McCain.
Also, Ron Paul actually is sounding like a traditional republican/conservative when it comes to foreign policy issues.
How did this become a Ron Paul debate. Paul was just a guy who was trying to get some attention to the real issues as he saw them. Which leads me to believe this guy is honest if not the sharpest tool in the shed. DTOM, i appreciate your sentiments, however i do not believe or support paul in his estimation that it has been our behavior in the 20th century that has created the 21st century terrorist threat, when in reality the terrorist threat was created by Islamic fanatics who believe in the Koran and what it teaches. Islam is easily manipulated for political gain, and in the creation of enemies to pin all your troubles to. Today, and even when Islam was first being preached, it was the Jews who were, and are still, culpable for all the worlds ills.

Ditto PB,
Lindsy Graham is absolutely right!

Lindsey was NOT attacking Republicans, he was attacking Ron Paul Bots who were trying to hijack the SCGOP.
There are some very nasty enclaves of Ron Paul supporters in SC. Lindsey is public enemy #1 as far as they are concerned.
As a friend, and former county GOP chair in SC, I am thrilled that Lindsey is fighting back against them. We need more Republican leaders like him.
SJR
The Pink Flamingo
I am not one of the Paulnuts.

So a socialist supporting Democrat won your county? Is that really something to be proud of?
Uh, no.
Buddy Witherspoon defeated Senator Graham in the primary in Greenville County.
In the General Election, Democrat Bob Conley was far more conservative than Graham, and had previously chaired the Greenville County GOP.
So you have as a Senator for South Carolina a pro-military, mostly conservative Republican in Lindsey Graham instead of a Democrat in Bon Conley. You are far, far better off. well you guys beat me to it!
I recall not being so thrilled with his stand on illegal immigrants.
yepper!
He’s not called Lindsey Grahamnesty for nothin’.
Isnt lindsey a girls name?…I thought so
Kudos for attacking the Ronulans. But he’s still an amnesty RINO.
No more RINO’s, at the very least! There should be a blood bath in the Republican Party purging all fo these RINO’s from positions of political power. Gentlemen farmers was the term in the good old days, today it’s Joe the Plumber. Get THOSE guys elected for a single or double term and no more.

Why avoid Ron Paul supporters? They are some of the most fervent supporters of the Constitution and Capitalism.
No revolution is monolithic. To be successful, you need to have a big tent.
Shove a big tent, also Michel Steel can shove it on that note, we need a right, far right , and even farther right to combat the extreme liberals at our front door.
Why is everyone bashing Ron Paul?
While you might disagree with him about the war, what about everything else?

We need someone like him to be in charge.
