Man Killed After Making YouTube Video Predicting His Murder

Accusations by a dead man have delivered Guatemalan President Alvaro Colom his most serious crisis since taking power a year and a half ago.

Protesters and political foes have urged Colom to step aside while investigators look into murder allegations lodged on video by a lawyer days before he was slain by gunmen Sunday.

In the video, attorney Rodrigo Rosenberg stares into the camera and delivers a chilling declaration: “Sadly, if you are hearing or seeing this message now, it is because I was murdered by President Alvaro Colom, with the help of Gustavo Alejos,” the president’s secretary.

      You’re correct, at first I was thinking Ted Kennedy, but when I read that he was shot and not run over it became clear that it was far more a Cintonian than Drunkonian style murder…

    There are many possibilities here, one of them being that there are an average of 17 murders per day in Guatemala, another being that a destabilized government, could present more opportunities, and be more advantageous, for the drug cartels that operate throughout the country. Also, there is the possibility that what he has said is true, and because of the murders of his clients. Political assassinations are a fact of life in Guatemala, with over 50 people murdered in the last election, and when a friend of mine in Guatemala was killed, his friends were certain it was politically motivated. Impunity and corruption, continue to be some of Guatemala’s biggest problems.

      I might add, Guatemala’s last election was a narrow victory for this president, the country is divided, unstable, and violent. I wouldn’t be surprised if they aren’t on the verge of another civil war. That sounds familiar doesn’t it?
