Los Angeles Times:

The man shot at the Beverly Center mall this afternoon was identified as Atlanta-based Dolla, whose real name is Roderick Anthony Burton II, according to his publicist, Sue Vannasing. She said Dolla was shot in the head around 3:10 p.m. while he and another rapper, D.J. Shabbazz, waited in the area after shopping at the popular Westside mall. A friend who was with the rapper at Beverly Center also confirmed his identity to The Times.

About two hours later, Los Angeles police detained a “person of interest” as he attempted to board a plane out of Los Angeles International Airport. The man allegedly drove his silver Mercedes SUV from Beverly Center to the airport. Vannasing said Dolla had gotten into an altercation with other passengers on a flight from Atlanta to Los Angeles, but it’s unclear if that was related to the violence.]

[Updated at 5:15 p.m.: Police have arrested one "person of interest" in connection with the shooting but were looking for a second suspect.]

[Updated at 5:40 p.m.: The arrested suspect, who fled from the mall in a silver Mercedes, was detained at Los Angeles International Airport while trying to board a flight. Police said the shooting took place in the valet waiting area of the mall].

The shooting occurred just after 3 p.m. at the La Cienega Boulevard entrance to the popular Westside shopping center. All entrances and exits to the popular Westside shopping mall were sealed off as police swarmed the scene.

LAPD officials said that officers were sent to the mall on a report of a group fight, possibly involving a knife. LAPD Sgt. Ronnie Crump said two suspects ran in the direction of Beverly Hills.

At a Chipotle restaurant in the mall, several people were eating when the shots rang out.

“The customers were yelling ‘close the store, close the store, because somebody is shooting,’ ” said Elsa Hernandez, general manager of the restaurant.

An employee who was behind the restaurant, near the mall’s valet parking service, saw the tail end of the dispute, Hernandez said. “He saw a lady … shooting a handgun,” Hernandez said.

The center is normally quite peaceful, said Hernandez, who’s worked at the restaurant for six years. “This is the first time this has happened here,” she said.

    1. why is it joked about.
    2. how is this relevant news?

    • BT

More important than BHO getting a dog, and a hell of alot funnier.

    • BT

It’s funny because these so-called artists advocate violence as a part of their lifestyle and when they become victims of it we are supposed to show sympathy for them, give me a break.

“He saw a lady … shooting a handgun,” – Article

  • David Ross

Is this the best idea the Mayor Shirley Franklin has had at reducing the murder rate in Atlanta?

    • GRIZZ

One down…….Ya’ll going to have drinking water this summer? Saw Lanier on the news, doesnt look good

    • David Ross

We are definitely on our way out of the drought. I think the official rain guage is under the eve at Hartsfield/Jackson airport so they will never lift the drought conditions regardless of how much rain we get.

  • YERMOM

Fuck! I guess that this means we will get a movie about this ass hole now.

  • Cold Dead Hands

Too bad for Dolla. Thug Life.
For me, the interesting point in the article is that the lazy pieces of shit in L.A. need valet parking at a shopping mall.

  • cuchieddie (Known Infidel)

He was a worthless piece of shit just like his other rappin homeys. He will not be missed.

Just remember, rap is the root word of crap.

You didn’t here one piece of information about this guys life, and you cheer his death? So anyone who raps advocates indiscriminate violence and deserves to die?

I’m disgusted at the ignorance of these posters, if this is your mindset you are no better then the leftist scum we are fighting.

 and no im not a troll. I’ve been here for years.

    • DesignR

      Humor. Death.

They can be related, even in our “Civil Society”.

Do we have to get into an anal exam discussing the pro’s and con’s of Rappa’/Gansta’ life style or morals? Is this particular rapper a better role model for our kids than say; fiddy cent, Tu Pok, Biggy? I don’t know. It’s sad for his family and friends. But to most of the world, sadly, it’s another kid (odds are) using the degrading of women and death in the streets as a way to gain wealth and fame. It’s a Vulture mentality and society that spawns these poor kids.

But, also note, some of the posters on this blog have seen war up front and personal. There are few pansies in the crowd. Ever been around ER or Paramedic staff at lunch? Try and swallow that egg salad sandwich after some of THOSE jokes.

In life, on occasion, a little gallows humor is called for.

  • Vehement

Awww another product of one’s own enviroment. :gun:

Damn, and him and Fiddy could’ve been huuuge and made an album “A Dolla and 50 cent” and I could get a tattoo that said “$1.50 fo’ life” and Burger King could honor them with a $1.50 value meal! OOOO YA! Fo’ all duh po’ brothas out dare in hard financial timez cuz of duh Bushes evil empires. Yeeeah boyyy!

Design I also want to avoid a drawn out argument, let me speak my peace.

The point i want to make is Rap DOES contain a lot of indiscriminate violence, degrading of women, robbery, etc. and I hate it as much as you, But this is not the definition rap, it is the misuse of rap.

(An example would be skinheads making rock n roll music, their music doesn’t define Rock n Roll, it is the gross misuse of the art form. It would be retarded for me to lump every single guitarist into the category)

To the outside observer I understand Why rap gets this image, its the combination of some rappers spewing garbage and this being the only content you see and not wanting to look any further into the genre.

Honestly look at what I said and I think you will agree.

Rap is permeated with socialism and an unwillingness to look any further politically then the Dem party, so there is many fruitless battles to be fought for me, But I think its worth it discussing it briefly with you guys because I know you all as intelligent people.

    • DesignR

      Point well taken.

      It’s good you spoke up.

I was writing about the top 1% of the story relating to fame-for-fames sake and a lost generation of people living with mirrors in their hands and nothing between the ears or occupying their soul.

With the high profile rappers being killed or injured in fights in the news, it’s hard for a person outside the ‘zone’ to understand things below the surface.

If you have an interesting take on this, the floor is yours. I’m sorry I missed the broader point you were making.

I’ve never heard the socialist angle with rap. I ‘assumed’ the link because of the cultural connections with the African American community and the Democrat Party. But I rarely listen to it, unless my daughter or son have it playing.

You are not annoying me. You are informing me.

      Go man go!

  • just posting

And i wont annoy this thread with any more posts, good day to all.
